Would you buy another TVR?
Discussion
Would you buy another TVR, everytime i go out in it something goes wrong i.e. a pheasent jumps out on christmas morning and smashes drivers door mirror, then at the weekend the windscreen was cracked from a stone thrown up by an Audi A3, and on top of that the clutch slave cylinder is having to be replaced now after spending £1300 on a service a month ago. Are these cars just a money pit?
I'd love another Cerb but I'd have to fill the garage with those hard-to-replace spares (windscreens) before I started using it. And I'd probably want to rebuild it from the ground up, just to convince myself that there's nothing out of the ordinary waiting for me when I try and use it for a long distance run.
In fact, I can see a project Cerb coming along as soon as I've moved house (my single garage isn't suitable to rebuilding a car).

Not a terribly damning list given that 2 out of 3 could have happened to any car......Would I buy another, yep, on my 3rd and I sincerely hope it isn't my last. Yes they have a nasty habit of eating money when you least expect it, but they can also be run far more economically than many a modern car. Neither of my Chimaeras have cost any more than £1k per annum and 10,000, so I can't really complain. The Cerbera cost £6k+ for the same period, but was worth every penny for the extra performance and even bigger grins.
On my third.
I spend much more money on my daily drivers, with a fraction of the fun.
Dopey pheasants etc, don't differentiate between vehicles with which to tangle.
TVRs aren't for everyone (fortunately).
It's a matter of personal taste, and what you choose to spend your hard-earned on.
I could blow thousands a year following some overpaid footballers around, etc, etc.

This is possibly the best summation I have read about why people have TVR's. They aren't just getting from A to B but are more a passion or something that you have always dreamed of having.
For some the dream turns out not to be what they expected and the outlay of time and money is not worth it, if so then is the time to sell....
I have had two with a 5 year gap in between when the novelty of owning one wasn't there, now I can't think what I would get unless I spent twice as much.
In the words of one of the breakdown guys who picked up my Cerbera, "They are great to turn up at the pub in and go like nothing else for the price, but be prepared for nuts and bolts for the rest of your life".
On my second one.... what other car can give you this much BHP per £.
They are not an everyday car, they are a fun weekend car.
Its a raw drivers car, no nancy traction control, airbags or ABS.
They sound great, theyre quirky and they are BRITISH
I will always have one as long as my wallet permits.

honestly, if i didnt have 'greasy hands' and do all the work/servicing on the car, probably not...
I think id be too scared to break down and not fix it by the side of the road! ive had so many 'silly niggles' which if you didnt know about cars would be a tow home...
But the noise...!!!!

Iv noticed that it seems to be TVR night on PH tonight.
Isn't it just!
Well i still own one but yeah course i'd have another.. I'd take a punt on a nice Cerbera.. I just love that engine and the 'batmobile' looks...
I'd quite fancy a Sagaris as they just look bonkers.. and there really is nothing like it on the road. Only thing is i'd want the AJP8 engine.. (I'm just never satisfied sometimes..
)So Mr TVR (whoever you are) if you fancy doing me a new Sagaris (with the side exiting pipes of course) with an updated AJP8 in it then i'd be a very happy man..
