Just as the title says.....can you buy an iPhone from O2 without a contract? If so, I might just be tempted.....

yes but it needs Jailbreaking, Activating and unlocking.

(and jailbreak is not a fancy name for unleashing it from the box)

I am led to believe that with ZiPhone, that little lot is a one-click job.

And ZiPhone is free.

This is due to the next gen model being released shortly.

I haven't heard to many good things about the model currently on sale over here.

If you get it through Quidco, you get an extra £100 quid off!

This is true quite simple and takes 10 mins.

Ah, but you have to pay an €89pm contract! Ouch!

But as mentioned before, if you can walk into O2 or Carphonewarehouse and buy an iPhone for £169 without any contract, then I might just get one and sell my Nokia E51.

Ah, I didn't read that far into it ... 89 Euros/pm is just not worth it ... Also, I didn't think you could buy the iPhone from an O2 Store without signing up to their £35/pm tarriff?

The price is being cut because a new 3G-enabled iphone is coming, which should elevate it's status from "useless expensive toy" to "slightly more useful and expensive toy".

I suppose that helpful comment is based on using one for a week or so rather than just looking at the specs and dismissing it?

Walk into CPW, do credit check, pay money and walk out.
Get home, download ZiPhone, unlock, jailbreak and activate with 1 click and 10 mins later you put in your existing any network sim. (Although I believe you can't use a 3 sim)

You are supposed to activate through iTunes and choose a tariff but they can't tell that you haven't.

So you don't sign up to the contract in-store but over the net?

They don't even do a credit check, that is done when you sign up online through iTunes.
