not much about 997 but basically saying new boxster will have a few mods (like another 10 bhp, mods to steering , improved interior) but mainly the same, they will however bring out a coupe version with a lower price .. and a club sport version with 310 bhp .. that might well be worth while waiting for

All the mags say the 997 will be out for the 2005 model year, e.g September 04. With "retro" style round lights & a chunkier look plus 345 bhp (needs more) the Turbo is supposed to follow in Sept 05 with 450bhp ,along with a new Boxter.

looks like the boxster (coupe) is becoming what the 911 was supposed to stay like.... a compact-nimble coupe sports car....
THIS IS FINALLY THE LEGACY OF PORSCHE SPORTIVITY!

The 996/997 is slowly (but surely) becoming the inheritent of the 928's.....(appart from the nice ones: 996tt, gt3, gt2....).

I can' t wait to see-drive a boxster CS with 310bhp...

The Boxster looks very nice in the mockup in AutoCar. This is just what we're looking for to replace the TT in a couple of years time. The girlfriend is looking at Z4s at the moment which are great cars, but I just can't get over that badge on the wing (both it's presence and what it signifies).

Bring it on.

What ever happended to the 'rule' of 100bhp per litre = a sports car?

996 3.6 and 320 bhp,
997 3.8 and 345 bhp

As an earlier post said the 997 will need a bit more then 345bhp. Ive noticd that even an audi 1.9 TD in say a A4 is very rapid in mid range on the road and actually gives my 996 a fair run for its money.

For the pounds spend on the 996 I would be loath to upgrade to a 997 with 345bhp as its not quite enough (although you can never have enough power)

The evo 7/8 I think is 286bhp, very rapid, very good value, M3 is in the region of 320bhp but a lot cheaper.
I love my porker and its looks and BHP isnt everthing, but Im begingin to wounder if cost v BHP v other cars = good value.

Just a thought?

I hope it happens but will be amazed if Porsche produce a 310 bho Boxsta CS coupe for £29k.
This would take sales away from the 997 and clearly they will make more profit from a car which will no doubt have a base price close to £60k.
The 345bhp engine of the 997 is available now...if you spend £6.5k you can get the X51 engine upgrade pack for the 3.6 litre 996 as opposed to the X50 available on the TT.
There is talk of a 3.8 litre going into the 997,I understood this was for the C4S, as currently this heavier model has the same standard lump as a regular 996 C2..More than likely this 3.8 litre engine would be offered as a factory upgrade for the resr of the normally aspirated model range as it was with the 993.

We know the 997 is coming, they will let you put a deposit down,,Autocar is pretty good at getting porsche models before they come out.

I reckon the Porsche dealer will take your money, putting an order down for a Boxster..
If and when 2005 for example..maybe...
they will let you transfer to a Boxster CS coupe.

Will it be 310bhp,,,will it be approx £29k will it have any of the lights/front end we have seen ? Will you want/need one in 2005?

they will let you put a deposit down for a cayenne cabrio if you wanted,,,doesn't mean that much really.

There was a big thing on the AM forums where people thought they had put a deposit down on the new AMV8..the money expressed your interest to Aston should sucha car be available to buy.

I think the article referred to the 'base' Boxster coupe for £29k, then an S variant, and then the CS.

They did say that the coupe would be cheaper than the convertible but the CS will probably cost the same as a loaded S-convertible. But £43k for a brand-new 996-beater? Sounds perfect!

Cheers
Andy

Too perfect Arwebs,,,as stated above there is no way Porsche are gonna sell ou a £43k car when they have £60k cars in the range to take care of this....Am i missing something here.....maybe they just drop the 911/997 derivative and concentrate on Boxster Coupes & Cayenne'
