Hello

Ok, the first of my daft blonde questions....

I am loving my new S2 Elise, the only problem being that it's taking me about 5 minutes to get into it each time. When I click the big button on the key fob to deactivate the alarm it takes loads of clicks for it to work. Does anyone know where is the receiver part in the car?

I've tried from all different directions and it still takes ages. I thought it might be the battery (as someone suggested), but the red light on the key fob lights each time I click it, so I don't think it can be that....

Does anyone got any thoughts on this?!!

Thanks!

Must admit, mine has always been crap!

I usually have to get within 4ft of the car before it works, and I find aiming through the drivers door/rear window towards the dash helps.

It could well be the battery as mine has got progressively worse over the years and is probably due a change just in case.

4ft would be fab - I have to be within about 4 inches for mine to do anything! The real problem is that i'm not sure what I should be 4 inches away from laugh

Ah, I see!! To be honest, that's a good question and I'd like to know too.

I do know that on my '04 111s the Cobra alarm unit is behind the passenger seat, behind the plastic trim, BEHIND the foam insulation - I found it once when I ripped it all out to fit the harness bar!! The perimeter sensor for when the roof is off is located behind this trim also, but roughly between the two seats, pointing forward.

I'm guessing just pointing in the general vacinity of the interior should suffice. Have you tried changing the battery just in case?

Hmm, I think changing the battery has to be next move.

My work colleagues are finding it most entertaining to watch as I leap around my car for a couple of minutes trying to deactivate the alarm rolleyes

Battery is the best bet, mine has started to weaken and the range has dropped from 10-15ft, down to me having to stand by the door arm/disarm it

Do you know what size / type battery they take? I'm sure it's in the manual but if anyone knows i'll grab some on the way home smile

It's the 3032 from memory. But caution. I did this two days ago and it locked me out. You have to reset the system by pressing both buttons for 10 seconds, until the light stays on (the red LED), then press the big button for 5 seconds, till it flashes and then press the big button again to stop the alarm thinking you're pulling a fast one.

There's a better set of instructions on Seloc, under the title "Help, i did something stupid"

Just so you won't

The aerial for the alarm is located under the dashboard and it's pretty small hence the crap distance. It's possible to lengthen it, I'm sure there was a writeup on seloc or in the teckwiki there but it did involve removing the dash to do so. (It was an american site, I'm certain.)

My S2 was just as rubbish - definitely worth checking the battery in the key fob. Is it any different with your second fob? I used to have to be pretty much by the driver door before the alarm would disarm.
