Missing Clutch Fluid Mystery
Discussion
Hi again
Seems I'm here every day recently asking questions about my car. I would like to thank those who have answered my questions. The advice given has been spot on technically and a relief mentally (I've spent 10 years trying to figure out these problems on my own, it's great to have experts on the end of the computer).
My 84 Turbo has been off the road for the past 3 months. I hopped in to start it up today and the clutch went straight to the floor. I checked the fluid level in the reservior and it is empty. There is no fluid around the cylinder, none in the cabin on the floor, none on the garage floor! I'm stumped, where else could it be? Are there some sneaky lotus owners here in Australia who are breaking into garages and nicking the clutch fluid? Cheeky buggers!
Any suggestions?
Regards

The seals are shot. Check for fluid mositure at the plunger pod where it connects to the pedal. If you see any wetness it is there. The rubber dustcap will keep most of it from cabin as it runs down the back wall. Just under the master cyl there might be slight seepage. Only other thing is the slave.

Hi,
As Calvin has stated, you have a bad Master Cylinder which you'll need to rebuild. Not too difficult, about $50USD for the repair kit.
It's also the ideal time to replace your 'Red Hose' with a SS clutch line, if not already converted and replace the slave cylinder (cheaper than rebuilding existing one). These mods will ensure that your clutch performance is optimal. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE
