Had a bit of a blast yesterday with my mate (Scoopy STI) and reved mine quite high in 3rd (till the limiter didn't mean to) then changed gear..smelt a bit funny..than about 6 hours later when I went to start the car it sounded like a bag of bolts and kept on stalling...after a few goes it fired up and sounded ok... Then when I got to the end of my jouney home I sat in the drive and reved it a bit and something just didn't sound right.. I can descirbe the noise.. a sort of vibration.
Any ideas...could I have blown the head gasket or may be the manifold.

Anything happened to the oil pressure? Over reving the engine can do serious damage to it and take out tappets, big ends and so on. Especially on a pre-serp engine. Look for obvious loose things and then take it to hospital...

Hitting the limiter shouldn't cause you any problems at all.. afterall thats what its there for, to stop you damaging the engine by over revving it..

Where's this vibration coming from.. an exhaust manifold sounds more like a ticking..

Cheers,
Matt.

Depends. The limiter is variable and may be as high as 6800 revs which is "oh my god the engine will melt" time. It may even be non-existent. Equally the limiter did not step in and the engine was saying "oh my god"!

The bag of nails and stalling could be a combination of no oil and kncakered internal bearings. It doesn't take long at 6800 rpm to kill an engine if the oil pressure failed.

I'll second that, can sound quite "metallic" to the uninitiated (i.e. me!).

oh dear... Think I might send it to Hospital for a once over... Oil pressure was still ok.. and so was the temperature.

Ok, just a daft long shot, but you haven't had an HT lead or two work loose have you?

When they're down a cylinder or two they're quite.... "interesting" ....
