I have a question about an exhaust mod that i have just had done on my Chimaera at a local garage. I wanted to have it sleeved but was told all that they had done was took the wadding out of the back box but did not weld any pipes in its place. The noise is not any great deal louder. Has anybody had something similar done or have any advice for me on this type of mod.
Many thanks.

Theres just the one box, kind of in the middle... Removing the wadding will make it a bit louder but its not sleeving. Done properly it involves cutting open the silencer, cuting out the perforated pipes, welding solid pipes in their place, replacing the wadding (just to reduce resonance) then welding it all back up again.

So you havent had it sleeved. Most places charge between £120 - £150 for the whole job.

If you have it done at offords they put cherry bombs (small silencers) in place of the perforated pipes, a little quieter but a deeper exhaust note

MInes sleeved and is fearsome !

They Should take the baffled pipes out and replace with straight through pipes. wadding can be removed or left in..

Thanks for the info.
I was not aware at the time that they were not going to sleeve it and only take the wadding out. I'll have to go back there tomorrow and see what is now possible :-(

When i brought my chim the previous owner had taken the wadding out and it made a high pitched resonating noise at 70 - 80mph i wouldnt recommend it.
Ive now got straight through pipes complements to a certain marc hockin and it sound soooo much better.

You don't need to remove the perforated pipes just cover them, the more you cover the louder it gets.

This will give you an idea of how it's done :

My SEAC exhaust before (with the 2.5 inch s/s beside it)

And after - with the baffle chamber replaced with biffercated perforated pipes into a 2.5 inch s/s straight thru pipe :

I then replaced all the packing around the pipes and welded it all back up ..

Sounds good in principle but in practice only sounds good on full throttle - at low throttle does not sound so sweet..

I'll be making it quieter at sound point.
