Brooklands: No Public Enquiry
Mercedes more likely than ever to set up shop at the classic circuit

Now I'm really pissed off! Not only is this green belt land (ie no planning permission is supposed to be given at all) that the local council have seen fit to dispose of the government have effectively given them free reign over the site.
Did they even blink when MB declared that the traffic impact on the local area would be an increase of 4 cars per day? FFS this is going to be their new technology centre! Sure they are going to include a new museum as part of the building but that just goes to show how big it is going to be! I hate to imagine how big the backhander to the local council must have been to get that through even the initial planning stage.
Everything on the "green" side of the bridge is going to be flattened (somehow they have to get the planes on that side across the bridge - or lose them). The Brooklands Grand Prix Academy is being closed (evicted) and bang goes another venue (not suprisingly they are extremely annoyed having totally lost their investment in the track).

It's sort of a nice idea but at the wrong place and time. Fair enough that DaimlerChrysler is putting money in a place with great motorsport heritage but there isn't much left at Brooklands nowadays. If there wasn't the museum people would mistake the remains of the banking for whatever. DaimlerCrysler's money would be better spent at Montlhery near Paris, the last remaining classic oval in Europe. DaimlerChrysler, hurry up, time is running out. The circuit is due to be closed at the end of next year if nothing happens. If you want to protest against yet another circuit closure then do it here www.motorlegend.com/montlhery/index.php .
