After my first 4 months of faultless top down fun the Chim is almost due a 6K service. Im not sure whether to stick with the main dealers or try a specialist.
Can anyone recommend a North-West specialist or had a good experience at one of the local main dealers?
Not looking for horror stories, just tips for good service and reasonable pricing

Phil, there is the main dealer in Northwich (Christopher Neil). I think its 01606 41481.

But if you're prepared to drive for 60 minutes, Team Proactive in Birmingham are an excellent 'independant' TVR specialist.

I.E : Head Gasket Replacement on Griff was quoted at main dealer at about £200 - £250.

Team Proactive did it for c £65.00 when they fitted me a rollbar.

For £ 150.00 saving, I'd drive that distance to have it done in Birmingham again.

For an independent, there is Shane Fearns in Stockport AKA SFR Engineering. He is a former TVR race mechanic and knows his stuff - Tel 0161 480 0101. His reputation for good work is getting around.

If you want to stay within the TVR dealer network, H L Gorners in Wigan deserve a look. They are fairly new to the franchise but do have alot of TVR experience and are certainly enthusiastic in what they do. I would certainly rather send you North up the M6 than South (IYKWIM).

Jeepers that is cheap .. there's 60 squids worth of bits! they must have done it in 10 seconds I though the main dealer was cheap at 250!!

Gorners are a good bunch, very helpful, main dealers and keen TVR enthusiasts.

They are on the A49 (between M6 J24 &25) and their phone number is 01942 717373.

Definitely recommend the factory, I have nothing but good to say (about the Service dep't anyway - my experience is limited to them). Nothing against Gorners - people speak well of them and they are a friendly bunch but the factory is handier for me and there are all sorts of interesting things to look at... Of course being Northerners, they are all very friendly too..

I've used Chris Neil's for my servicing, even though it's a longer drive than HHC for me, and have found them much cheaper (for a dealer). I had Team Proactive do my headlight conversion, new wheels, etc. before they turned into Team Central (or whatever) and they were far cheaper again (I do want to keep my dealer stamps for servicing, though). Never tried SFR or H L Gorners.

Just had my 6000 done @ SFR......set price £300 + Vat.

Brakes looked at too, rear pads changed and handbrake re-ajusted.

Excellent price, excellent work...........

Its great that we have now got more of a choice. It was not long ago when it was only two in the NW. Now its 5 if you include the factory.
