Fellow pistonheader, griff 500 owner and good friend Matt Durys (midnightblue) sadly lost his battle to cancer on Thursday at the relatively tender age of 35. He was at the last years growl, where he met some of you - Dave Blades may remember him.
His feneral is next tuesday and he requested to go out "fast and noisly" - We figured we couldn't get his coffin in the griff or his jag, so Roger at monkfish performance has loaned us his twin turbo HSV Maloo to take him in style (and speed!).
He genorously donated his griff a close friend who used to own a griff, so will be taking good care of if. It will lead the funeral. I'm just about to go round now and check the car over, as its been stood for a several months.

Matt had been helping me on the finer details of Megasquirting my TVR. I can't say I knew him well.. meet him at the growl last year and then for a beer... but he's left a strong impression on me... very nice bloke, smart and willing to help with a great knack of explaining things in a way I could understand.
It's sad knowing he's not in this world anymore...I will miss him..

Good news is that the drivers window started working again after charging the battery. I took it out for a quick spin this morning - was a somewhat interesting drive given its got funky semi slick tyres and it was raining.
I gave up trying to work out what all the unmarked buttons and switches do and just used my sleeve to demist the screen.

Just back from Matt's funeral, great send off that he would have be proud of.
Will miss you mate.
Yes, echoing Darren's message. Am going to miss him terribly. Will miss you mate.
And congrats to the boys in the procession - I'm sure Matt would be very happy having exceeded 1 Lepton on the way to his final resting place (in kms of course....)

Hi Guys
I was a close friend of Matt (since the age of 11!). It has indeed been a very sad time for all of us, and it is nice to see so many kind words on the forum. Matt obviously touched a number of people in various different circles!
It was certainly a spectacular send off, with a rather nice selection of cars. We had the HSV Maloo, as previously mentioned, Matt's Grif 500 and Jag XJR, a Ferrari 355 Spyder and a couple of 360's, 911 Turbo, Golf R32, Aston Martin Vantage, and a Dakar 440, not to mention some normal 911s etc (seem quite ordinary in such exalted company!). Needless to say, Matt's final journey was as quick as all his previous ones!
Matt's partner has given me the OK to post this. This is not intended to be a begging posting, but one of Matt's last wishes was that friends donate to the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign. If you would like to do so then please feel free to visit our page at JustGiving: http://www.justgiving.com/durysmotorsport . No pressure to give whatsoever - but any donations to the charity will be gratefully received.
If you are worried about the validity of this link, then I am sure Eliot will vouch for it. This is my first post here after all!
Thank you once again for your kind words.

The Midnightblue Griff rumbles on! As the proud new owner of the beast I suppose I'd better keep up the good work...
We certainly gave Matt a good send off but I reckon the old goat had the last laugh on two counts. Firstly, now call me old fashioned, but am I the only one to notice the irony in burying the sod in the Olney Green Burial Ground? His funeral procession probably burnt enough fossil fuels to keep a small African nation in power for a year and I'm told the assembled 5000 horses revving up in the middle of Olney dislodged more masonry than the earthquake did the previous month!
Secondly, leaving his beloved TVR to me -was it the last kind act of a dear friend? Was it desperation to find someone daft enough to take her on? Or was it his evil sense of humour in action -I mean what apparently sane/considerate bloke leaves the world's most unreliable car to his least mechanically minded mate?
Even now he's sitting six feet under over at Olney, I'm sure he can hear the unmistakable rumble of the Trev. Yep -the griff is back on the road and still scaring the s
t out of old ladies, babies, animals, small children and every other road user come to think of it -including me and I'm the one driving it!
I wonder if Costco sell Y-Fronts in bulk....

I knew Matt and was at the funeral, it was a great send-off for him. In the posting that listed the cars present, nobody mentioned my 944! Although it's neither fast nor noisy, so I suppose it doesn't count.
Matt was one of those rare "do anything for anyone" types, and frequently did. It's wrong and unfair that one of the really nice ones was taken from us prematurely.
My nickname for him was "Matt Man" and my mantra was: "The world would be a better place if there were more Matt Mans in it!"
What's the plural of Matt Man? Should it be Matt Mans or Matt Men?
