Ive had a new box and clutch under warranty yet it is still notchy in third and forth, I just cant get it to go in these gears smoothly and dont know if I should take it back in again. Im thinking is this normal.

I've got a manual E46 M3 and have had no 'notchy' problems with the gearbox - I'd suggest you get them to look at it again... although I'd be tempted to accompany any of the garage test-pilots when they're looking for the problem wink

Why did you need a new gearbox ? it's very rare for manuals to cause trouble.

All the M3's that I have driven have notchy gear change to some extent, and it's quite common for owners to develope a gear change style that goes some way to smooth things out.

Change gearbox oil or try some gear oil treatment like Slick50 or an equivalent.

Mine was the same murder in first and second. The new clutch sorted that, then it was still crunching third and fourth so bm put a new gearbox in for me. Its all working now but not how I would expect.
