Well phase one of my winter rebuild is now complete, the car's stripped back, clams off and is now resplendent in its lightweight "superleggera" guise biggrin The good news is that, while there's plenty of work to do to get everything back to shiny, brand new condition it's certainly no worse than I'd expected to find which is a relief.

Next step is to get the car trailered into Ken at Lotus NZ to have the engine pulled then when I get the rolling chassis back I can begin to strip the suspension and peripherals off for stripping/blasting/plating/painting as applicable. It's going to be a looong winter.

Ha! Sadly (or not sadly) I don't think so this time. More than happy with the K (so long as it's not too broken) and I'm reluctant to mess with it too much because I like having it original.... still more than quick enough for me. Having said that, if the VHPD is truly poked then I'd be foolish not to look at the Honda option wink

Only joking! Awesome car without the Honda transplant anyway wink

If you're not afraid to pull the car apart and find the VHPD powerful enough, there's no need to stick another powerplant in. High output Ks need TLC and if they go pop then there are plenty around, I'm sure even a VHPD could be sourced if necessary.

Good luck with the refresh George, I'll be keeping an interested eye on this one.

Thanks lads smile I'll be posting more pics/progress as time goes on. Going to be a long, lonely, cold, lotusless winter for me... but at least I get to tinker to keep me occupied smile

and I agree Kevin.... pulling the car to bits doesn't phase me so it's not like I feel obliged to stick a Honda in just 'coz the car's in bits at the moment... hopefully can squeeze another couple of years out of the trusty old VHPD yet smile
