Dear all,

just bought my first lotus elise, 111r which i will pick up from the dealer in 2 weeks time. the reason for my email is to seek your advice regarding exhausts. the car currently has a sports exhaust fitted (sorry i do not know the make) but i found the noise on the test drive rather droning on the dual carriageway section.

therefore the dealer has recommended two options

1. replace exhaust with standard exhaust and fit an induction kit
2. replace existing exhaust with sports exhaust from 2Bular. http://www.2bular.com/index.htm They recommend that if i go for this option i should get the following model. i have quoted this from 2Bular web site

"The 7”dia x 18” long system is the most popular with owners. It’s quiet on cruise/motorways but has a nice howl on the second cam. It’s UK Trackday friendly too."

As i am new to these cars can you please advise me to which option you think i should go for. I am not really looking for a track day car if that helps so an increase in performance is not crucial.

thanks in advance.

It doesn't really matter what induction/exhuast you choose on a 111R, they wont change the performance significantly, so it comes down to personal choice.

With the standard exhaust... the car does sound a bit like a sewing machine, so lots of people tend to change them. You can't go wrong if you choose an exhaust from 2bular... you tell them how noisy or quiet you want the car and he'll be able to make something to float your boat... and it's beautifully made too.

As the website says, most people in your position choose that one, it makes a much beefier sound than the standard box, so the car sounds much more like a sports car, and if you do decide to do a few trackdays, you should be safe with it.

There is a (little) drawback... 2bular build everything to order, so it might be a couple of weeks before you get your exhaust delivered.... but it'll definitely be worth it.

Oh.. I forgot to mention.. if you decide to go down the standard exhaust route.. I wouldn't dream of paying anything for it... there must be 000's in peoples sheds/garages!

I have a 7x18 2bular on my 111r. It's pretty good. The noise levels have never bothered me. If you are driving it like a normal car (economically) then the exhaust is not really any louder than OEM.

But when you're giving it some it is very very loud. In cabin there is a very "punchy" almost fluid noise that is beautiful to hear. I've never heard my car outside but it sounds good in tunnels...

2bular's aren't "zingy" like Larini's. So people don't immediately assume a boy racer in a hatchback is coming around the corner...

lol, most boy racer cars have deep exhausts like the Janspeed. Larinis sound more like sportscars

for the induction kit, go with a Hurricane. Combined with the tubular, tou will get an awesome sound which is addictive on 2nd cam. With "virgin" passengers, the look on their faces when you get onto 2nd cam with all that noise is priceless. As several others have said, at cruising speeds it is relatively quiet and does not boom or drone.
