recently had a honda n/a conversion carried out on my s1 else, am delighted with the job carried out by sinclaires.i live in ireland and have to carry out a nct (mot) but the car failed miserably on emisions even though i fitted a cat?
i explained that i wanted the cat to ensure i would pass any emision tests but am now told by sinclaires that i need a new lean map to pass test, which i would have to fit a new ecu(£500)so a temporary map could be sent to me via email just to get me through a test. after the test i could then re install my original map. i just thought i would end up with a car with emisions that would always pass a test, as it is only a honda type r engine and im sure civic type r owners dont have this trouble, any help appreciated?
thanks con

at risk of being flamed, that's just not right..

if the mapping is done right, and closed loop enabled it should pass no problem.

I am guessing from this that their maps are not set for closed loop? (and do their wire up the lambda??)

Ding to Scuffers - Mine passed MoT no problems whatsoever, with a 100 cpi sports cat. No changes to the map and the car makes a shade under 230 bhp, so not a conservative map either.

my SC Honda car, converted by MSC in Kent passed its MOT 2 years running, without issue ...as should yours, I cant understand why it doesent come that way myself from Sincs, as one of the plus points of the Honda conversion is that its in relatively standard tune and you dont have all this hassle !

Mines a sincs one with rolling road remap and passes. Best thing to do is have a chat with Wayne and get to the bottom of it.

Alright, keep your hair on!

Perhaps the answer would be, to have it put on the rolling road in Ireland so that it is set up specifically for your engine & set up. That is, if the map you have is generic and not customised to your car already.

On my old honda (B16) engine, I had a st of a job getting her through MOT emissions. I had left her standing for a few months. It was the lambda sensor. The dealer (very helpful) suggested a damn good blat may sort it but no luck. New sensor (about £120 plus fitting) and it was fine.

Excuse my ignorance of the Irish test process, but the following thoughts come to mind.

Question 1: Is the test measured to the same parameters as in the UK? i.e. should the std map be compliant?

Question 2: Have you had the car tested at only one place, or is it possible to try another to get a comparative reading on the failure point?

Question 3: Do you know anyone who can lend you a remappable Honda ECU which you can swap into the car, and maybe Wayne or someone in Ireland who's got the same set-up which has passed the test, can email you a compliant map?

Best of luck.

Emission is usually never problem with a Honda engine. I've been tuning them for 8+ years now.

Do you have the Honda kpro ECU ? If so,you can download the map from the ECU and mail it to me, I can try and have a look at it. Or I might have another map you can try out . What's the brand of cams fitted ?
