Does anyone know what accelerator cable is fitted to a 1988 350i wedge? The one I have has a metal outer casing with a plastic adjuster at the engine and a metal ball at the pedal. Mine snapped when I really didn't want it to and I could do with fixing asap. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Regards, Mark

Keep the old one and give speedy cables a bell for a quote to repair. Might be reasonable and stash it away for a rainy day.

Hmmm. No speedy cables web site. Are they still in business?

Yes £50 quid sounds expensive, There are DIY race ones on Ebay, come with every end your need. and they are only £35.

Oh do you know the length, as forgot to measure mine, and need one for the race car as it's missing.

Thanks
Leigh

I have accellerator cable from my old D plate wedge in the shed. I thought it had snapped and got a replacement but once removed I remember it was a crimped bit at the end that had come off and was easily replaced. I know at the time I kicked myself for ordering a new one and waiting several weeks for it.

Since I no longer have the wedge it is no use to me. If interested I can have a look at the condition tonight and for the cost of postage it can be yours. Alternativly if at Chatsworth on Sunday I could pass it over then assuming it is any good!

I fitted a half spiral shaped block to my car to smooth the route of the cable in the footwell and so reduce wear to the cable.

Me too! Except mine cost me nowt as I had it hanging around in the barn anyway in a box of cycle bits.

I got my last 'proper' one from speedy cables for about £25 quite a few years ago.

When it goes on the SX I forsee some hassle as the cable is about a yard longer.....

the cable length is about 99.5cm - 1m. The cable itself is in good condition as far as I can see, the nipple at one end had come loose and has been re crimped on.

Same here. Fixed quickly then and always have a spare in the car. It is fine and tested on a few trackdays and a day trying to master drifting in a wedge. Everytime I see the price for a simple cable decide to stay with the old setup. The cable I used for the fix is 6 years and over 15000km in use now.....

Unfortunately for my wallet, I had to order a replacement cable to guarantee delivery so it could be fixed for Chatsworth. I dealt with a very helpful chap called Keith at Clever Trevor TVR specialist who supplied an inner cable for £12.80 + VAT + p&p for a Griff. Even though he hadn't got all my card details he still sent the item special delivery to make sure I got it in time. The pedal end was fitted with a ferrule and roller allen key clamp, not the original ball for a Tasmin. I managed to get it to fit by drilling the hole in the pedal slot 5.5mm on the engine side and 6.5mm on the other side. The ferrule was a perfect fit, held in place by the original clip and everything lined up nicely, although the cable is resting on the ferrule. There is an excess cable of about 30cm (the original is 100cm hole to ball)but I just coiled this. I've kept the allen key in the car so if it snaps again I can easily bodge it to get home. On reflection, it would probably have been easier to have done away with the ferrule and used the roller action of the clamp, although I would have had to close off the slot somehow (cable tie or thread on a nut perhaps).

I would advise everybody to have a spare cable and a cable tie because the originals are all going to snap eventually (mine snapped at the ball)and you can do a temp repair in mins.

Many thanks for all the advice and especially to Clever Trevor.

Regards

Mark
