Contacted a guy about his Elise on Sunday. Very strange guy, not helpful, in a big hurry but cannot be bothered with potential buyers. I have bought lots of car and this guy, I would rather buy a more expensive car just so I don't have to meet him.

Anyone who goes to see the cheapest Elise that is advertised somewhere on the web, go with your eyes wide open.

Not good! Unfortunately you will always come across people like this when buying privately - They really do themselves no favours ... On the upside there are lots of other S1 cars for sale, many of which owned by Lotus enthusiasts who know their stuff and have looked after their pride and joy religiously. Much better proposition imho!

To be honest if the S1 was very cheap then there must be a reason as to why - It either needs a lot of work doing to it, which could be thousands, or it could be CAT D registered. How cheap was this car?

Probably best left alone smile

I just had a couple of phone calls with him, was sending my mate to see it as he lives 18 miles away. I could not arrange him to see it on Sunday, so the guy had someone else see it that day in the end; he didnt buy it, I contacted him again, but he said he would let me know, but didnt. He said he had another guy tonight, and said I could come after he had been. I dont mess about, if I see a car or my mate sees one for me, I lay down the cash no problems.s That is if everything is as is should be.

I have bought off a couple of sites in the last year and met reasonable people, I just didnt want my friend to have a guy like that to deal with.

He told me, he locked the car doors on the car and wanted the guy to leave as he was being a pain. Thats what he told me. Nothing more queer as folk!

By all means go and see it but, I weigh people up very quickly and would rather buy a car that has been cared for.

Must be something wrong with it if someone else has viewed the car with intent to purchase and walked away, especially if the price is £6,500 ... Pay a bit extra and get a truely loved example thumbup

Good advice guys. thumbup
I do think that on the other hand the chap in question may genuinely want a quick sale & has advertised the car dirt cheap for a quick sale rather than relying on needing the cash because he clearly doesnt need the money. I realize that his attitude towards potential buyers could be better though.

Walk away. The cheapest Elise will end up costing you money in the long run. I got offered a very rare Sport 160 in Krypton Green but as nice as the owner was, even the large discount offered wasn't worth it to me because it just hadn't been owned by the kind of owner that I'd want to buy from - i.e. someone who really knows their car and hasn't cut any corners during ownership. In the end I spent more, but the overall cost was less than if I'd have bought the other car at discount, because the one I now have is so well specc'd.
