IT Contract to do...
Discussion
Nothing it seems!
I was hired by a specialist Consulting Co to work on one of their Clients sites helping out with some Test stratergy and some Test Automation.
I've been here nearly 6 weeks now and built the Automation product I was asked for within the first few weeks. Since then I've asked what they want done next, but not had anything given to me!
I've spent the time trying to understand the upcomming project and polishing the work I've already done but I cannot get past the fact that I don't feel like Im pulling my weight or earning my money.
I guess Im asking if its common to be contracted in somewhere but then given nothing to do whilst getting paid a daily rate??!
From my perspective it seems they have got me in a few months too early.
I always thought getting paid well to do nothing would be ideal. The reality is not quite so though.

Definately a feature of the industry, when it comes to large corporate IT projects. Happens all the time on projects ive been involved with (directly and indirectly). However smaller clients are completely different.
BTW are you scripting WinRunner /QTP ? You could freak out the network guys with a few non-scheduled extra intense runs against production ;-) !! Only recommended if you have decent professional indemnity insurance!!

It is my first time on a large scale project so I don't really know what to expect. Its always been smaller (<250 people) outfits previously.
And, yes. Currently using WR but trying to get QTP installed to have a play with that too. No requirement for PI either as Im here through a Consultancy rather than agency so they cover me!

You are not alone. You've done the right thing - make sure your client manager is aware of the situation. The rest is out of your hands, unless you are either a political animal or a masochists and want to offer yourself up for someone else's crap that they cant be bothered to do.And, yes.
