Ive just bought an manual 02 x-type 3.0 sport. Its a nice enough car and sounds nice but where do jag get their "official" facts and figures from? There is no way that it does 0-60 in 6.6secs!! It is quick enough at high revs but ive just changed from an audi S6 which would blow it off the road and apparently does 0-60 in the same time!! I have a ST200 as well which does 0-60 in 7.7secs but even it feels a lot quicker off the mark! Just wondering what other owners feel?

Yeah I agree with you. The published fuel economy figures are even further from the truth than the performance though!!

Find a car mag that actually does performance tests rather than just passing on the output from the manufactures PR department and compare those.

No idea about the X-type figures, but for the XKR some of the mags have been almost a second quicker than the Jag figures.

The other thing to bare it mind is that the some cars feel much faster than they are, whilst others seem much slower than they are. Short of strapping a real speed measuring device to a car and and having a go at measuring the acceleration it's hard actually get a realistic figure.

Fuel consumption figures are probably rigidly audited, so they should be comparable for the actual tests. Of course they bare bugger all comparison with real life. Ever met anyone who drives around on a rolling road all day long?
