Any one spoken to Andy APM?
Discussion
Poor old Andy ! He is a victim of his own success. His rates are pretty low. His reputation is high. So he is inundated. He has branched out into rebuilds which are time consuming and fill your garage with rolling bodies that take up space. He also has to deal with many pain in the ass customers - as TVRs get cheaper etc then the hassle factor gets higher if you work on them. I am sure that is why Trackcar moved away from his Joospeed business.

Expand.....I was suggesting that IMHO customers are more likely to prove a challenge when they cant afford to run the cars. I would suggest that this is something that all indie TVR servicers have to face.
Prices, of the Cerb' particularly seem to have levelled, or am I just kidding myself.
But, I know what you mean, my engine was in bits last year, bottom end wasn't touched but the bill was still over £2K, and that was a fair price for the work that was done.
That sort of cost will make some people wince, it did me.
Andy, is an excellent TVR specialist, knowledgeable and works like a navvy! Even if he does take the 'P' out of most of my ideas.
let's not knock it, I'd rather have to book 3 months in advance with Andy and know the car was in good hands, I hope he never gets ideas of expanding too quickly as some of his competitors have.
Having used a few TVR Specialists, most recently Joolz at TCS. I would say my findings have been, if you want good service at a good price stick with the SMALL guys.
Here's a big
for Andy & Joolz.

Couldn't agree more. The trouble with them being so busy means that it becomes a real hassle when you have an issue that needs fairly quick attention - like my clutch for instance - as some of us have our Cerbs as our only daily drive (although I can normally get by with lifts from the wife or using the family bus for a week or so). I just wish Andy would move to Southampton! But, I know what you mean, my engine was in bits last year, bottom end wasn't touched but the bill was still over £2K, and that was a fair price for the work that was done.

And as for Jools, I'm not looking forward to getting my car to him when I've got enough cash for my SP back box/Whirlwind induction/MBE Remap!
I find the travelling to and from Andy the most hassle as I have to get a hire car and take time off work. And being self employed, it isn't cheap. It all adds up. But hey, like most of us, I put up with it all, simply because the drive back - when she's running sweet as a nut - makes it all worth it!

Got it in one for me ref the servicing / repairs etc .. just got way too much and took me away from the more interesting but less lucrative performance stuff. My workshop is getting less and less road car and more and more race car .. three TVR race cars in this week
I do look at Andy at APM and admire him for sticking with the servicing and repairs, he's a good chap and builds a mean engine too
You lot just leave Andy alone he's hard at work putting my engine back in.
Andy has been putting lots of thought into his business plan recently and has decided that preference will be given to owners spending more than £10k a year on their cars. He is then going to increase this by 50% per annum until he will come to a point that he only has to work on one car a year.
So the only option is to spend more.
Some of the above may not be true

Let's face it Cerb owners, we drive a very fragile car that goes like stink!!
If you can have those moments in your car where you can enjoy the motoring/racing without that thought in your mind of "Is it going to get me there?" then it just makes ownership more worth while, the cost is time to get it to Andy and paying a very fair price for expertise which is at the head of his class. The mutual respect that Jools and Andy have for eachothers businesses says it all.
From my stand point, each weekend I race costs me £2000 in tyres, fees, diesel, petrol etc...The car goes flat out for the best part of 2 hours in practice qauliy and two races and I can't afford for it to break down.
The comments from Peter Wheeler were absolutely fantastic at Donington two weeks ago, he was astounded and obviously proud by the Cerbs pace and impressed by its robustness and the job Andy had done in preparing the car, he compared it to the works special, this is after all a road car that can mix it with GT class racing cars in performance and reliabity.
Two reasons for the above: With the right techinical back up this is a great car!!

I'm guessing you're either rich or not married
My misses has recently commented on the fact that I hide my receipts.... "not true" I said, "I just don't leave them lying around for you to see!".
I've said it before and I will say it again!!! When I needed help and info on rebuilding my 4.2 ajp, Andy was the only garage that would give out detailed facts and support. One garage said that "its our bread and butter we don't give out information, you have to bring it here and we will fix it" He is a top bloke and I can not praise him enough! Have many of you seen his Hyabusa turbo? He is not just a good mechanic he must have some balls to drag that!!!
