Mountain Bike consumables and upkeep
Discussion
Am I the only one on here that spends more keeping his bike up and running, than his car?
Seems my bike gets through a higher value of parts than my car does, however I will admit to putting "proper" bits on my bike, and my car makes do with ECP or GSF bits in the main.
Admittedly my car is quite a humble model that doesn't owe me any finance, or ever see the inside of a main stealers too.

Me too!I've had my everyday car for 18 months, in which time it's cost me around £2500 to maintain (cambelt, new front suspension, oils and filters and new discs and pads all round) including the purchase price. My Commencal has cost the same in 6 months. Not that anything has broken as such, but i've upgraded, replaced and accessorised as needed.
I reckon its a combination of washing them and full suspension designs less robust for british weather.
I never wash my winter bike, except for the drive-train. It has v brakes, and rigid forks and never puts a foot wrong. The only consumable is a regular change of chain to avoid having to do the lot and brake blocks.
The full sus on the other hand is not for of the cost of running a bloody 2 stroke mike
