runing in, top tips people???

car is back, (kind of!!) got another 850 miles to go, know it does not go over 3000 revs, so basically 70mph max - pooh but also advised not to make the engine struggle by going to low on revs.

keeping around the 2800 revs max (is this okay??)

in the lower gears, does not seem to enjoy getting to 2600 revs before changing up, and as i am back to using the car everyday, almost paranoid about the bloody rev counter

i am sure there are a lot you felow tuscans lovers that have been through this - am i doing this right??

Dont let it labour and dont keep at the same amount of revs for a long time. I.e. dont sit on the motorway at 80mph...

thanks, appreciate that, coz i though motorway easiest way to burn up miles, so cross country it is.

I don't know many motorways where you can do a steady speed for more than 5 mins before coming across some roadworks or an overturned HGV! I did quite a bit of motorway running in (mostly M25) and I considered that the speed fluctuations were sufficient.

RUNNING IN

Most importantly, drive fairly normally. Being too gentle with an engine when running in can be as bad as being too rough.

Although it is important to avoid full throttle or over 4,000 rpm during the first 1,000 miles, occasional bursts (c.5 seconds) of 75% throttle up to 4,000 rpm, will help bed in the piston rings.

FROM COLD

When starting, please be careful not to let it rev straight up so please make sure that you do not give it anything more than a tiny bit of throttle while cranking it over and then lift off as soon as it catches.

Then try to avoid more than 3,000 rpm until the oil (not water) temperature has exceeded 40c, 4,000 rpm until 60c and 7,000 rpm until 80c, If it climbs above 110c, please keep the revs below 5,000 rpm until the oil temperature returns to normal.

mines just had a re build and i done a lot of miles on the moterways(m1) i never went over 3500 revs as advised,also told the same dont thet the car labour in high gears,the run in is done and the engine feels great( very responsive and tight) its all worth it in the long run,but follow the rules and the engine will be fine.

I was alo told this when I picked up from the factory. Said the initial published 3000 linit was too conservative

Only problen I have with this is the oil tems never goes over 73 under normal driving. only eyer gets over 80 if stationary in traffic for 10 min but drops back to 70 when I get moving again

All of the above, but don't be afraid to load it every now and again. it's good to not be too gentle with the car.

Get it up to normal operating temp and give it 3/4 throttle every now and again in small bursts.

I've had the pleasure of running in 3 S6 engines now and they all seemed to bed nicer resulting in a smoother pull when ran in...
