I've been playing COD4 on the PS3 online for about 6 months. I'm now at level 55 Commander for the third time.

Unfortunately, because a lot of the more recent time has been clocked up by my eldest son who wipes the floor with the rest of us, I think I've got to a level on-line where I'm getting 'owned' by all the other players. I used to be able to hold my own, but now I'm feeling lucky if I can get two kills in before being obliterated.

Is my assumption correct that the online engine will pit you against similarly qualified users?

Is there any way of reducing your perceived calibre to the online engine so it doesn't keep pitting you against battle hardened super heroes?

I kinda like the idea of starting from scratch and using my knowledge of the layouts to go back in and totally destroy some newbies, just for my own childish pleasure of course biggrin

if its anything like the XBOX version it pits you against similar ranked players based on your kill rate stats, i presume you can maybe log in with a new profile and "start from scratch" again but as soon as you start nailing those FNG's you will rise the ranks again until you are regularly getting whacked by unseen sniper rifle toting kiddie warriors.

I didnt realise this. Just thought everyone was getting so much better than me.

Perhaps you just need to get together with a group of like skilled players.

Is there an OAP league or something....?

Now you're talking!

Problem is, my eldest boy, can beat me, my youngest son and my daughter even when we all try to gang up on him in a 4 player off-line game, the c0cky little st!

And now, when I go online, it seems I have to shoot someone 20 times before they'll die, whilst they take a pot shot at me through a brick wall, and I immediately die. It is getting right on my effing nerves!

X-box puts all skill levels in the same battles it's not prejudice at all shoot I'm on the yellow dog face symbol type skill (level 5 presteige iirc) & am also NO1 in the pistonheads league (who will bite?) wink

If your getting killed so easily change your perks to suit a more covert operation.

Silencer's on weapons
Claymores

Deep impact
UAV jammer
bandolier

+ black socks wink

You can camp out then all game just popping off passing traffic so to speak. Ask Spunkymon he's best at that.

There is a load of PS3 COD4 players on-line you should join up with them as it is the 'OAP' league as we all st. It's also amusing how the yank kids take it so seriously.

Are you using the right 'upgrades'/perks? Deep impact helps, as does 'stealth', and 'steady aim'. Do you have a silencer yet? Great fun for killing people that dont even know they are being shot at. Most importantly, you must actually 'aim' at the target before shooting, as you can rarely bring the gun onto the target successfully when its actually firing. Do you find yourself shooting a whole clip without killing people? Thats not the way it works in real life either....

Using the right weapon for the job too. The 50cal barrett is great for blowing people away through walls - so you need to know where to hide which isnt in a sniper kill zone.

Theres also little point running aound with a sub machine gun trying to shoot somoene thats 300 metres away. The M4 makes a good al round weapon I have found - accuracy and stopping power.

Ninja spec as above is only really any good if you move around or play hardcore, otherwise the kill cam will give you camping spot away.

And slowride, your never going to beat my k/d ratio yes (and if you did i will have to come online to give you some more pastings).

Yes, play 'hardcore'. You die more at first, but soon realise its easier to kill as each bullet generally kills first time. Much mroe realistic, and no kill camera.

it's based on your kill deaths...if your kill deaths are over one, you go with people that also have over one, and if it's less than one, then you go with people that have kill deaths under one. But your welcome to a game if you would like to be beaten biggrin ps name, skylinecrazy

I didn't know that! I have a k/d ratio over 1. Maybe that's why I get hammered so much!
