Not sure if this has been discussed before.......currently have an S2 111s and very pleased with it, however am very keen on the Exige (Zebra's photos don't help....v nice). The one thing I would miss with the Exige is the topless option (doesn't look right without roof in my opinion), not used as an every day drive.....any opinions / converts ?

I purposefully avoided a convertible as (in the UK) I really don't think they offer any advantage over a removable hard top. I had a series of convertibles over the years, MX-5, 911, TVR, BMW 325, M3, "borrowed" Boxster etc. The hard top offers a number of cosmetic and practical advantages to me. And, if I really want to, I can take the roof off for an afternoon blat. On top of this I get better suspension, wheels, tyres.

Doing it all over again I'd still stick with an Exige,

I have had 3 different Elises all with hard tops and have very rarely taken them off. Partly because i am lazy but mainly I much prefer the look of the car with the hard top on and absolutely love the look of the Exige. An Exige with the roof off looks just wrong IMO.

Not had an Exige yet but it is only a matter of time. Have test drove a couple and the speed is phenomenal. Have also been a passenger in a couple with skilled drivers at the wheel and i absolutely shoite myself much to the amusement of the drivers who to be fair didnt exactly push the car to its limits either.

From what little experience i have had of both my humble opnion is for looks its the Exige, for power its the Exige, for everyday use its the Elise, for running costs its the Elise. Depends what you are after.

On my third Elise, this is the first with a hard top and it creaks. Does the Exige hardtop fit/creak in the same way ?

Think the Exige looks fantastic and would only be used at weekend/sunny days but would miss the top off, nice dilema to be in but having been through a number of cars recently I need to make sure before considering a change.

I would agree the Exige looks slightly wrong with the roof off, however appreciate the number of times a year this would be.

Thinking laser blue Exige with black wheels......is Krypton green still available ??

The only problem i have had with my hard tops is wind noise at high speeds. Be very careful when taking it on and off as it is very easy to cross thread the screws, i know cos i did it on my first car.

Just been reading your other posts....back on board eh ? and I thought I was bad 3 Elise and 2 Imprezas in about 6 yrs. CN is my local dealer as well, generally ok as they go.

Believe I need to lube my rubbers on the hardtop...

I went to my Exige (also laser blue/black wheels) from a VXT and at first i missed the soft top, in fact i still do.. But in a way i dont. The Hard top is alot quieter, and less 'drafty'

However, I still got the roof off the exige recently and loved it! Just left the roof at home, and think I am going to invest in a shower cap

Had a hard top on my Elise and now one on my exige; both hard tops, once settled (say a week or two) I find them perfect - literally perfect. No wind noise, no creaking, no leaking, nothing.

The only thing I had to do in the Elise is adjust the window slightly so it doesn't foul the bottom of the roof; very easy (juts take off door card and there's a small grub screw)

PS: You can take the roof off an Exige biggrin

Hi Tony, I'm finding it quite the opposite with my Exige roof at the moment and I'm not sure why.

I take it off every now and then to give the interior a proper clean but find that after re-fitting it it's perfect for about a week then gets pretty rattly and creaky. I've tried silicone lubricant and tightening the fixings but I can only get it silent by taking it off again and starting the whole cycle all over again.

I did go for a quick spin the other day with the roof off and it felt fantastic.

Mine creaked when the fixings were screwed too tight. Loosening just a tad solved it.

How strange? Maybe I've just been really lucky?

I'd love to offer some advice but "unfortunately" I literally put the roof on and it's fine.

Do you put the clip at the back of the roof on too? That was different from my Elise roof and seems to pull the back down a lot better.

I do put the clip on the back and everything seems very secure and tight for about a week. I'll keep fiddling and see what happens.

Cheers.
