I've just bought a 360, and it's amazing. Having moved from 996 ownership, where I tracked it regularly, and generally thrashed it, I'm wondering whether mechamically the Ferrari will stand up to hard driving? Not planning on actually doing any track days in it (I've bought a Westfield for that now), but I'm hoping I can drive it as it should be driven and it's comfortable being red lined constantly and generally being pushed pretty hard. Anyone had any experience of having to have an engine rebuild?

Cheers!

Ferrari only sold road cars so that he could fund his racing ... he only knew how to build race engines.

In answer to your question, yes, they can be driven hard. Some mystical legends suggest that they might even drive better for it smile

Cheers - that's what I wanted to hear! Just heard a few horror stories about them not being as bullet proof as 911 etc, and wanted to ignore them...

Compared to a Porsche or even a Lambo, the 360 is a relative wimp. That said, they are still pretty good. Certainly better than an Aston.

How bullet proof is a 360? Don't know really, but I've got a 12 bore and a couple of rifles in the gun cabinet so if you want to meet up some time, I'm willing to put it to the test!

Can't say fairer than that!

Its a difficult thing to say and somewhat subjective. In my experience (which granted with the 360 is no more than 6 months/4000 miles) the car has been outstanding and feels extremely solid and at least as well put together as my previous 996 GT3. Generally speaking compared to previous ferrari the 360 was a massive leap forward in terms of reliability and durability. Incidences of engine failure are significantly few and far between (especially when you keep in mind the number of engine failures porsche currently experience) and even when the worst happens it isn't necessarily as bad as it may seem as the engine was designed to be repaired unlike porsche who simply replace the whole unit, which is easier for the manufacturing process but not easier on the punters wallets.

I think you're being a bit harsh on the Porsche engine failure quote. Even on the early 3.4 996's and early 986's it was a very small (but well publicised)figure. Take your point on the replacement process.

as a victim of a blown engine on a brand new porsche, I disagree.

Proportion of failures to numbers produced is tiny - but its always the "my engine blew up" headlines that get noticed and never the "my engine has never blown up" ones.

I've had a 360 spider for 11 months / 5000 miles (9k total) and after warming it up riced the arse off it everytime I go out. Tracked it for a day and loved it, but I think you have done the right thing with the Westfield, from the point of view that an off would be very costly. I have heard of issues with worn ball joints, fogged up headlamps etc but nothing about engine failure. Great great cars.
Crack on.

ps
I read on this and other forums of owners well on their way to 100,000 miles with no issues.

What would I know?

Rest assured, Ferrari's are not as tough as a Porsche or a Lambo
