absolute cock munching pricks ! need 2 new rears and an mot!
right that'll be £60 for the mot ( robbing bds)
and £251 for the tyres ..... EACH eek
oh yes and £10 a rim to fit them !

as there is a no naming and shaming policy we'll just leave it at they are the closest to me in lancs!

suffice to say I laughed quite a lot and hung up !

5 miles round the corner is phoenix motorsport in accrington, rung them up and guess what.. aroung 150 each fitted, which is where I'll be going tomorrow !

why do they try and take the piss like that? it only prompts me never ever to use them in the future ! gggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Pretty normal. I've only ever used main dealers whilst a car is under new warranty and even then not for tyres. Oncxe the warranty expires is off to a specialist or trusted local garage.

With the greatest of respect, I think that decision depends on 'who' the local dealer is.

My local dealership (Bell & Colvill) are excellent: I get discounted rates on both my cars, they're not at all sniffy about me supplying my own service items, plus they collect and deliver the car, clean it, and will endeavour to fit me in at a moment's notice, which is much appreciated since I'm a busy person and apallingly organised.

Added to which they gave me the cheapest price for miles around of a set of AD07s fitted. thumbup

Well, at least you had the sense to call and discuss prices first. I feel physically ill sometimes when friends or colleagues meet up with me and say:

' Sorry I'm late - have just handed car to the garage and told them to fix it '

No estimate, no agreed budget....just handing the keys and saying ' do whatever is necessary and give me a call when ready'

Oh dear......

I went to that very same dealer once and thought it was crap, indeed they had to open the showroom up on a Saturday afternoon to let me look around and the car i went to see had been sold months ago but was still advertised on their website,i pointed this out and it was still on their website months later.I dont think they are really interested in selling Lotus cars, I wouldnt go back to buy or for a service.
No where name the same level of personal attention as CN which is exactly the same distance from my house.

I went to main stealers this week for two advans- £260 fitted, not too bad.
But while they kept me waiting for two and a quater hours, as well as fitting the tyres ( 30 minute job) they took it upon themselves to do a 999 million point "safety" inspection on my car. They recommended 1 track rod end-£125, new steering rack over £600 and a four wheel alignment £250! Labour charge was quoted at £80 an hour-lol.
I was really peed of when I found out they'd kept me hanging around for over 2 hours while they systematicaly stripped my car (including removing undertrays)to find work to do, they should have asked me if I wanted this service.
Needless to say I declined their offer to do any work on the car and booked it in at independant close to me, the track rod end does need doing but the price there is £40+vat not £125.
Dunx.

Those eek shock advisories eek are common with our main dealer too.

I have discovered there are 2 camps for service. One where they follow the Lotus schedules and "inspect" as suggested and make a recommendation based on evidence. And the other where they mistake "inspect" for "replace" regardless of whether it is warranted or not...

Kerching goes their cash till..... it's where their margin is, but not with my money.

£60 for an MOT? That's not expensive, it's £35-40 around here for the local spanner monkey to do an MOT and I'd not take my P&J there as they have no knowledge of Lotus.

When i first got the car 2 years ago i had the 'steam on the windscreen' issue and being a newbee took it to my stealer in scotland. They had a quick look and said it was a hole in the rad and would cost £600.

So i took it to an independant (JPS) who did a pressure test and said there was nothing wrong with it.

I too have vowed never to use that dealer again. They are an absolute nightmare.
I too will be going to Phoenix from now on.

The £60 for the MOT is the most amusing as the MOT garage they use (which is a decent place) is only about 100yds down the road.

even my Aston dealer isnt that bad...they are usually within £1-2 of the internet price on tyres...pay £250 each for bridgestones etc, but they are 285/40/19s smile

thats just a plain rip-off and that dealer needs to know that - vote with your feet smile

I was quoted £403 for an annual service on my 111R. This means an oil change, brake fluid change, clean the air filter and take off the undertrays for an inspection. Indepenedent price half that, game over!

Some of the stories on this thread make me wonder how these places manage to survive. There must be an awful lot of stupid people with a lot more money than sense out there.
