My 2000W 450 is currently at the independant I purchased it from having the head gaskets replaced under warranty.

Long story short that is covered by me elsewhere on here, but dealer replaced the radiator and also water pump gasket after they sprung leaks but ultimately accepted my diagnosis that head gasket (or worse) was shot and causing coolant leak from waterway to cylinder.

Once the heads were off this was proven to be the case (minor leak into 6 cylinders).

I was due to collect the car tonight but dealer has phoned to say that "the temperature has just shot through the roof" on the road test.

I will be phoning back later to find out their diagnosis of the problem, however what should I be asking for as a result of this:

- Replace gaskets again as a result of overheating on road test?
- Confirmation that heads are flat and no leaks/cracks (skim if necessary)?
- Extended warranty?
- Money back (I've had the car around three months, during which time it has spend more than a month off the road)?
- Improved courtesy car (I'm stuck in a Micra at the moment).

I'm concerned that with less 3 months left on the warranty I could be left with a big repair bill if any engine damage is not fixed now.

It might just be an airlock in the coolant system from re-filling it..? You can always have the engine compression tested if you are concerned about the head gasket having gone again. "through the roof" might have just meant over 100, did he say "dumped its coolant" "steam" "fire" "flood" "molten metal" or anything similar at the time ?

Cheers
Matt

Matt,

To be fair to him, no he didn't.

The previous leak was minor and wasn't detected by a pressure test and only evident once the heads were taken off.

I am just reaching a point where I can't see it ever getting fixed.

And in the mean time, just look at the weather out there!

Fair point about the weather.. I'm running my Chim with the fans on fairly constantly at the moment though due to the heat to keep the temperature down.

Are you going to get it later on today.. Afterall if its just got an airlock or something they can sort that out and check it in 30 minutes..?

Cheers,
Matt.

Make sure the indy knows the correct procedure on re-filling coolant or they may get an air-lock!

Seriously - there is a set procedure (haven't got ot with me).

Indy does know what they are doing IMHO.

Burst hose was the cause of latest episode.

Maybe, just maybe I will get the car back before the end of the summer.

These things happen, you're unlucky. Stick with it and give your indy a case of beer when it's all over .. he's probably going through more torment than you at the moment .. you'll forget all about it when you're out in the car and it's all fixed.
Peace ..
