I've got a few niggles with my HGT and was after a bit of advice.

The rev counter has stopped working and FIAT said it required new dials. They wanted some ridiculous price to change them, so if I get some from a scrapyard, how will this effect my mileage display and things?

The variator thing is making it sound like a diesel. Anyone know the rough price of getting it fixed? Is it a main dealer job or could any competent mechanic do it?

Cheers
Pete.

Hey Pete, can't help with the rev counter but I have a Barchetta with the same engine. Variator is about £100, if you are going to buy a replacement get one from DTR Sports cars in Mortlake, they are an upgrade on the FIAT one as the 'inners' are brass rather than plastic.

As for fitting it any skilled mechanic should be able to do it but he would need cam locking tools and a variator spanner. If you are going to change the variator I would suggest changing the cam belt, followers, tensioner and water pump at the same time!

Hope this helps, if you are looking for FIAT specific advice try fiatforum.com - a very active site, well laid out and lots of advice on tap........HTH
