Bought a set of cossie calipers and 283 disks for a straight fit onto our 93 Chimera, having researched it,it should have been a case of removing the old set, enlarge the caliper mounting bracket from 10mm to 12mm,place washer in place refit and test about 2 hrs.I don't thinks so.Change for braided pipes and change to 5.1
The disks fit okay but the calipers line up onto the mounting bracket(just)but one side is touching the disk and no room for any adjustment.
Any ideas???I've spent ages stripping and rebuilding the calipers,i know i should have test fit first but at the time the car was at my son's

Did the old ones have spacers? When fitting the wilwood 300mm kit I had to use the old spacers on the new kit to place the calipers in the right place.

The calipers were from a ford cossie and did not come with any spacers etc.

Sorry, I meant the old calipers. Mine had 2 very thick washers between the caliper and the upright, after trying to fit the new calipers I found the inner edge of the caliper binding on the disc, and fitting the old spacers placed the caliper dead centre over the disc.

Edited to add - I also needed to get slightly longer caliper mounting bolts as the nyloc wasn't being engaged when the spacers were in place.

Ford cossie what?Granada, Sierrafrown i have the cosworth calipers(granada)conversion with the 283mm discs and used 4 x 2mm spacers with new standard bolts and none of your problems mine is a 95(earlier body)mine had the 240mm disc set/up originally and had no form of spacing on that system.

Just upgraded mine from 240mm to 278mm (and picked my face of the windscreen the first time I used them!). All of the "ford" calipers need bolt spacers and longer bolts when you go above the 260mm discs, not sure what size for the 283mm though

You may need to 'adjust' the washers with a little emery paper and/or file a little off the caliper body. There is very little clearance to begin with & the dics on mine brushed the caliper on 1st fitting. You will just have to fiddle around with it.
I assume you have not got the 4 pot cosworth calipers in error?

You dont need longer bolts for the Granny Cossie conversion as the bolts still poke out the other side of the hub carrier, purely because spacers are only 2mm,this is with stock Ford Granny Cossie calliper bolts(still available from dealers)wink

Thanks to everyone for there replies, especially Duncan and Simon.
We purchased the complete set off a ford sierra cosworth 2wd,after speaking to Duncan the disc's are correct but the 4 pot calipers don't fit,the calipers need to be off a Ford Granada.
Does anyone have the correct part number or spec for the correct calipers.
We are off to le-mans with our baby,so we need to get the brakes sorted.
If anyone needs a good set of sierra calipers, all checked, measured and cleaned, just needs the seal kit.Drop me a line.
Thanks
John

Try findapart or similar online 92-95 Granada Cosworth(Ate i think) for the right callipers, online parts finder thats where i sourced mine £45 to the front door, just leave the details of the part your after and wait for the phone to start ringing(i could have bought 2 pairs) i fitted a seal kit to mine but to be frank they dident need any attention i could have just fitted and bledwinkand make sure they are complete carriers the lot and the bolts if you can get them at least you will then have the type to show the dopey storesman dealer for new ones.
