On Sunday I though my bike was being weird and he did it again today!

Setting off ok, using some choke.
Ok for a few miles with choke off.
Then he gets really lumpy, hiccoughing, loosing power, really struggling to gain power after easing off. (feels like riding in treacle)
I slowed enough to turn off and he then cuts out.

Will start again using choke and ride with choke on 1/2 way at least.

Idles fine.

I have plenty of fuel, I filled up in different places Sunday.

Maybe I'm not meant to be a biker frown

It's a CBR600 FV 96.

when your riding with choke does it run ok?
can you rev the tits off it without choke & it run ok at high revs?

sounds like dirt in the carbs to me. not the easiest thing in the world to sort though. if your lucky there are drain screws on the carbs & opening them will flush the dirt out, otherwise its carbs off & clean them properly.

He rides ok with choke, but without at any revs its really really sluggish, wont get above about 6000rpm.
Kind of like being in too high a gear, but changing down makes it worse, you cant get any power back after, then all of a sudden you get a spurt and then nothing, then a spurt then kind of normal for a bit confused

Have you had the tank off for any reason?

well it sounds like fueling from here, its about the most common problem with bikes as they get old i believe.

On the bottom of each carb is a small brass screw.
If you open the screw fuel should drain out of each carb via a small plastic pipe which useually exits underneath.

If you can open each one and see if fuel comes out and if you can catch it to see if its dirty or rusty etc?

IIRC the tank is hinged on those and tilts back(?)

the fuel then goes through a vacuum activated valve to the carbs via a filter.

If the vacuum pipe is split or leaking it will restrict the flow of fuel.

This pipe or any otheres could have been dislodged or trapped if you have remover the tank recently.

A lot of this will depend on the age of the bike of course.
