Brake pads and the english winter

Just changed the brake pads on the commodore tonight, after it has been having quiet ordinary braking of late. Found out that on two of the pads, half the brake compound was missing, and with the rest of it about to fall away from the pad. It seems that it was rusting behind the compound, but can't 100% confirm that, but when i pulled one of the other pads off that hadn't suffered the same problem quiet yet, the compound came off very very very easily.

Would suggest, maybe, that if your pads have been on there for a little while, you might want to check them. Anyhow, new pads fitted now, and wow, she stops quick now.
