A few weeks ago I posted that Jason was upgrading the throttle bodies on my Tuscan to have roller bearings.
I can say that the result is a much smoother engine that is running fantasticly.
Drove back to Germany on Tuesday this week. Had an enjoyable 50 miles driving through Belgium with a very nice Ferrari for company. He gave me a thumbs up for the exhaust sound.
Last night passed a German collegue in his Z3 at some lights and he has this morning told me the Tuscan exhaust tone is absolutely incredible, "the best sound ever". He is a big Morgan fan and appreciates English sports cars.

Tony - v interesting. Did you have to upgrade the throttle bodies due to wear/part of a rebuild or was this through personal choice? If so, would you mind indicating the cost of this and what other benefits will be yielded from this?

Very interesting, I've been looking forward to your feedback on the spindle/bushing work, sounds like it has made a difference. How is it running at low-rev/low-throttle now, smoother?

Hi Baz,
My Tuscan is a 2000 model which had no bushings between the stainless steel shaft of the butterflys and the aluminium throttle bodies. Jason rebuilt my engine early last year but it was only early this year I became aware of the ware in the bodies (Ian at RVT told me) and Jasons solution.
The symptoms are a noisey engine, lumpy idle and loss of tuning due to a lot of play in the butterflys. It costs 600 quid + VAT. The upgrade is made to your own bodies and not done as an exchange (Jason will explain why).
Other than the engine now running much smoother and quieter, I expect it to continue to run well right up to the next service. For me, well worth the money.

Hi Andy,
At idle, its much smoother. Ian at RVT told me that the Tuscan idle revs should increase from approx 600 to 900 as the engine warms. Before the repair, it just sat at 700 regardless of temperature. Now it does exactly what Ian told me, ticking over at 900 when hot. Much smoother than before at low revs. I have spent a lot of money in the last 15 months on my Tuscan with engine rebuilds etc but I can say that these 600 pounds(+VAT) were among the best spent.
I have heard that TVR tried roller bearings and dropped them for some reason. I wondered wether the high temp will dry them out but they are hardly under load and so cant see a problem. Maybe 12 roller bearings were just too expensive for TVR to include. I guess time will tell but I am confident thanks to Jason at Str8Six and Ian at RVT.

Cheers Tony, sounds like money well spent for an early SP6 - rapidly losing tune and poor running at low rev's/throttle is something I suffer from so I've been thinking of having something like this done for a while.

Hi Andy,
You know, when I had my Engine rebuild last year, there was a sense of anti climax when she was back on the road as I had expected this new smooth running difference from the pre-rebuild. Now its like I have got what I had expected last year.
Also, while Jason was doing the Throttle bodies, he inspected the engine for wear and advised everything is good after the last 12 months 10k miles. It has realy given me confidence in the engine, the rebuild and the various upgrades.
The sun is shining again today.
