630i or 535d

Well, as the topic says really.
I'm after a replacement for the X5 which goes next week (4.6is, converted to LPG) and looking for a replacement for around the £25k mark.

My favourite is the 630i but depreciation and running costs are very high on my list of priorities so I think the 535d could be better in this respect.

Plenty of 535d's around this price but 630i's are very few and far between.

I'm 31 and have no kids yet so a 2 door coupe is OK, but image is also very important to me. I know some think the 6 series is mega fugly and some have refered to is as looking like it has down syndrome, but I love it.

Any pointers advice would be much appreciated.

I would say if you get a 535d Sport for the £25k mark it exudes coolness - well not the price but the fact that you have probably bought the best real world car and all the car you'd ever need.

Fast, frugal, auto, (touring especially) big, comfy, agressive looks.

6 series - especially the petrol ... well its going to be much slower same ish power but a fraction of the torque = miles slower. Looks well thats your choice.

Id go for the 535d every day of the week if I were you.

35d, no question - quicker than the 630i, more fuel efficient, better/easier resale.

Just looking at Auto trader there are about 15 535d's 54plate onwards which are well under £20k... thats a hell of a lot of car for the money.

And here I am thinking about a 123d for £24-27k or a 330d 231bhp for £22k..... let alone the Focus ST Civic Type R.... which is the better car hmmmm.... 535d EVERY time.

Is there any issues with buying a 80-99k milage 535d se or M Sport for up to £20k - all with pro Nav leatyher and all the must have options?

The M-sport coupe is nice but its also priced the wrong side of £30k and also still new so much depreciation to loose over the next year or 2.
I could get one but it'd require selling my TVR and that aint NEVER going to happen

286bhp & 550Nm v 231bhp & 500Nm
From the BMW website they quote the combined for the 535d as 42.2 (brand new model with the Eff dynamics) and the 530d as 44mpg

Extra Urban for the 530d is 55.4mpg
Extra urban for the 535d is 52.3mpg.

Price difference is £4k although the 535d is auto so in reality the 530d is only £2k or so cheaper.

lol thats incredible - perhaps they are trying harder to keep up with you.

Plus the 535d has full climate dual climate control which is a £500 extra on the 530d.

On average i got around 37mpg on mine, mixed driving, 42mpg on long runs.

Only 0.2 seconds difference in 0-60 according to What Car, but with a 12% fuel consumption penalty for the heavier car.

Can't comment on that one as i aint driven a 330d but i can't recommend the 535d highly enough - it's the perfect real world car (especialy when remapped)no 2 ways about that

I think this all boils down to torque and BHP - a standard 535d is 284 BHP IIRC

330d v 535d

Its not about what the 535d delivers, its how it delivers it - far less kickdowns to be on the power band. There is just pure power ALL over the place. No turbo lag. Thats what you're getting with the 535d.

Oh, and get it remapped by emaps or DMS. 340BHP, 500lb/ft torque, 0-60 in 5.5s, and you can still get 40+mpg on long runs.

On the 535d paddles were only an option from June 07 onwards. I think it was only an extra £60 or so for the sport box.

Go for the 535d I would probably NEVER get bored of the torque.
