re conditioning and sva
Discussion
for the sva test, what constitutes reconditioned parts?
say for instance i have the front suspension on my car, i take it all and sand blast it, re paint it and fit new bushes and shocks, would that count as reconditioned?
we have a beauford kit car which has been sitting in our garage for many years unbuilt
it has
body shell - beaufords own fibreglass(unused)
chassis - beaufords own (unused)
engine - nissan/datsun laurel (from about 1985)
gearbox - nissan/datsun laurel (form abuot 1985)
suspension (fornt) - cortina mk4/5
suspension (rear) - cortina mk4/5
sterring - cortina mk4/5
diff - cortina mk4/5
could we keep the nissan number plate?
- if we recondtioned the cortina parts?
could we keep the cortina plate?
thanks for any info

At best, you wouldn't get to keep the plate, but get an age related plate - i.e. a plate that says the car is the same age as the donor.
If you have multiple donors giving up major parts you will generally get a Q plate as no one paper trail will give you the back history of the donor vehicles.
You can move a private plate to another vehicle, but I'm not sure of how the law applies to kit cars.

so ive got 2 donors, the cortina and the laurel
ive got the v5 for both of them
the cortina is 1980
the laurel is 1984
would i be able to get a regestration thats the same age as either of them
basically im trying to find a way of not having a q plate (and a new plate is un realistic, in terms of money/time etc)
if i had a cortina that was 1984 would that help?
thaks doug

I don't think it's the year of each donor so much as the number of donors.
If you can use the engine, 'box, suspension, steering, axels, etc from just one of the cars and use the other for seats and trim that might help.
As it is though, if you need to use 'major' componenets from the Cortina and the Laurel then you'll probably get a Q.

You could use either the Cortina or the Datsun as the donor, as you have used at least 2 major components from each car.
No "Q" plate for you.
When it does come to registration time just present them with one of the V5s, you don't want to go confusing them.
As said previously. You won't be able to keep the actual number from your donor vehicle but you will be allocated another number of the same year (Either 1980 or 1984)

A veteran of over 120 kit car builds and registrations.
