I have just bought on old e34 535i sh*tter for a few hundred quid.

It has masses of body roll and really indirect steering - is that normal?

Obviously all the suspension is going to be worn (out) but, if I get some new bits will I see a dramatic improvement?

Based on my pretty successful experience with an E34 525i, I would suggest:

Fit a new steering column universal joint.
Adjust the steering box to zero backlash straight ahead, and positive backlash on lock.
Adjust the clamp tension on the steering column telescopic adjustment (under dash).
Fit new dampers, especially at rear.
Check condition of anti-roll bar mounts.

I think you might find this very worthwhile.

I reckon you need to replace all the bushes, this makes and amazing difference.

I have a 325i E30 as a bit of retro fun and just bought new bushes all round, and an aliminium guibo (steering link) which short out the slight sloppy feel.
Cost around £150 for parts.

Hi, would you be the Gizlaroc from AVF by any chance?

Cheers, Nick

Thanks for all the info

If I jack it up and remove the wheels, would I be able to see all the play in the bushes etc?

Also where is the cheapest place to get them - I usually use GSF, is there somewhere cheaper?
