The wife and I are going for test rides in the Alton area this sunday. We only have half an hour so can anyone suggest some decent roads to try.

Thanks

Funny that 'cos when I've been to Goodwood FoS I've stayed in Basingstoke & driven down onto M3 for short distance & then cross country to G'wood & I've always said to wifey that road out of B'stoke would make nice bike run.
In fact from Alton area down towards G'wood roads are good too. Sorry can't recall any road numbers etc. Check out a map for that route.
Enjoy.

A339 towards Alton...take the first right towards Preston Candover, stay on road to New Alresford..at alresford take the A31 to Winchester, at Bar end take the Morestead road to Corhampton, then join the A32 North to West Meon Hut...then A32 to Alton

any good to you?

Know the route well.. my old stomping ground prior to coming to London.. thumbs up for that route.

A339 Alton to Bstoke road is moderately challenging at certain parts i.e. some good bends - but aparently not a safe road. My fave road for getting on with it is the New Odiham Road (Alton to Odiham).. well the late 90s version I used to ride before the stupid speed limits on previously NSL bits and endless double whites were installed.

You really are testing in a choice spot as the roads others have already mentioned are very well known bikers favourites. If you're testing on Sunday BE AWARE that, if the weather is fine a) there'll be hoards of bikers around riding at various speeds and levels of competence and b) the roads will be fairly heavily (and cunningly) policed. Finally in high summer there is usually an Ambulance permanently sited somewhere along the route on Sundays and the verges are liberally dotted with flower memorials - says it all really. Take care and enjoy!

Alton - Basingstoke Road allows for very high speeds through the twisties.

Be aware , it is known as The widows road .

This area is heavily policed , they actively seek to deter bikers from Hampshire roads by pulling bikers

Did that exact route Y2Blade posted on Sunday and agree it's good. If it's a bit too long for the available time turn right at the end of the road in Arlesford, take the second left (goes under a bridge within about 200yds so you'll know you're on the right road) and follow that road through Cheriton, then turn left on to the A272 which will bring you back on to the A32 at West Meon
