faded carpet question!
Discussion
just brought another chim! and as allways the carpets are faded it parts ( the carpets are dark blue ) normally i would fit a new carpet set, but was wondering if there was any sort of sprayable die on the market that may make the fadeing look "put upable"
Any help would be great.
Many Thanks

Once I do my roof, if I have any Renovo left I will try that (they don't actually recommend it as it is not what it is for but said it was worth a try).
Leathermagic has also been quoted IIRC
Bearing in mind how erratically I oversprayed my chassis wax, I think brushing may be a better idea for me.

I contacted them a few weeks ago and the guy told me that he was a new start up and was expecting his stock to arrive within a week. He might be up and running properly by now.

Ash at Leather Magic UK, Tel: 07883 024 661
Hes in Langley near Slough, Berks
Had exactly the same problem with dark blue carpets, bleached almost white in places
The colour match wasn't perfect to be honest but if you go over all of the visable carpet area with the dye kit you really can't tell, looks 100% better now
Make sure you order some over spray wipe because no matter how careful you are & how well you mask up, you'll still get it on leather & plastic parts of the interior where you don't want it!

I've got the Leathermagic stuff and tried it first on the carpet door panels I removed (now Alcantara), brings the colour up excellently but seems a bit stiff now - maybe needs a lot of brushing.
Is everyone removing their carpets? I only need to do the rears so was going to mask up and have a go insitu - anyone done this or am I just being a lazy git?

Hi,
I bought some dye from http://www.leathermagiceurope.co.uk about 6 months ago. My Carpets were a fadded greeny/blue. I bought some royal blue dye (1.5 Litres) and it worked a treat. Because it's water based, all I needed to do prep wise was take the seats out. As I was I applying it I simply wiped the overspray off the leather with a damp cloth. Whole job took about 2 hours including getting the seats out!
The finished result is great. Because of the colour underneath, the blue has come out more of a mid tone, which looks absolutely fine compared to what it was. Total cost was about £80 but this included the application kit and overspray remover which to be honest I didn't even use...

The Dye does make the carpet stiff, a small amount of brushing with a stiff nylon brush makes it soft again
Even going over it with the vacuum cleaner softens it up a bit (use small flat attachment thingy & press quite hard)
Didn't bother taking the seats out myself, just covered them in plastic dust sheets & used masking tape to hold it on...

You could dye them, I think mine had been before at some point but had been bleached again by the sun (blue carpets again!). If you feeling brave though, just get a new set made up by Coverdale or similar, did mine over Easter and it was a pretty easy job and I'm really pleased with the results, it looks new inside for about £350!
