Off to buy a Meguiars orbital polisher. Aleady bought every other conceivable product on the Market. Saw one in action, have been shown how to use it. At £150, not cheap. Don't tell the wife. Does anyone else hide their purchases of his type from her indoors? Due to the cost or the fact that she may think (in my case, quite rightly) that it is sad?

Don't worry, I plan on practising on her car first!!

Superb thumbup

Tell her it was £15, leave off the 0. Though the polishes and pads will cost more too.

But it really does make a difference though.

Really really.

Good point. No point in mentioning the 0 - after all - that's nothing. I am sure she has done the same with her shoes!

Amazing how "old" shoes keep their labels on the bottom so well - its because women are lighter, and don't wear them out - or so I am told. Just got back home with the offending item (+ 2 pads and 2 polishing bonnets). Too scared to take it out of the car. Gonna be a fun weekend - "Darling, are you popping to the shops?", " Why don't you go visit you cousin in Penzance?" - hmm, wonder if she has a cousin in Penzance - worth a try!

Been practicing on the wifes car with the Meguiars g220. Verdict. Don not buy one under any circumstance. Especially don't buy one from ultimatefinish (confusingly called 260)near brands hatch. Most definitely do not buy one before 1100 tomorrow morning. Why? Cos I am gonna get me another one for my brother.

Seriously. It is an amazing bit of kit. Had one from Halfrauds a while ago, which was ok - this new one is in a different league. You have got to be careful, follow the instructions, and don't get sidetracked at looking at how good a job it is doing. But if you follow the instructions, and keep a close eye on what is going on, you will be fine!! Hey, I am an absolute amateur and have just bought my wifes discovery up to a phenomenal shine (no photos - DOH) in about an hour - try that by hand!!! The only mistake I made was to pull the polisher away from the bodywork whilst it was still in motion - POOF - polish absolutely EVERYWHERE - like it was snowing Autoglym!! £150 may be a tad steep, but (IMHO) worth it both from the results and from the time it saves!!

Off to do the Porsche tomorrow - I will be taking photos.

P.S They have 9 more at 360 (or Ultimatefinish) - help yourselves. P>S Before you ask - I have no affiliations with them whatsoever - seem like a nice bunch of people!!

Just seen the car in full daylight - ditto what I said last night - and then some. No swirl marks, no scratches. Annoyed I did not do a before and after photo now.

Interesting info!!

Been thinking about one of these babies for some time.......my idea was to jointly buy one between three of us (my nephew/mate and me!) and will now be going ahead.

Yeah and always tricky to dodge GF`s nosing into flippin` finances! Griff may be wanting a couple of little things doing extra at service time (sooon)-trying to work out a sneaky way of her not seeing that extra dosh going away......

Dave.

Cannot reccomend it enough - but it is always more satisfying when you get away with it! Took the 996 to the Garage with a "dodgy suspension", came back with sports exhaust. Oh no darling, it always sounded like that (RIIIIGHT!!!). Also go the front end resprayed without her knowing!! Oh what an evil web we weave - but all for a good cause!

Have fun with the polisher - I still havent managed to get it onto the Porsche (rain, and nowhere to do it inside) - but I am sure you wont regret it - there are loads of websites (a good one is www.detailingworld.co.uk) which shows you the best way of using it.

enjoy!!

Just thought I'd throw in a couple of quick pics of a bit of correction being done - came out well with a new polish I've had for a while now, but never really got a chance to test it much.

The 2nd before last image (wing bling) was quite heavily swirled - I'm very pleased with the outcome even though it's not 100% corrected, since I was testing a new polish I've had for a while, but not really been able to do much with for one reason or another.
I was also supposed to test a couple of pre-production sample products, but alas time got away from me, so they'll have to wait until next week some time.

Clicky piccies for biggies.

Looks superb - ok, the $1MM question - what was the polish? Even feel kind of sad asking!!

I have got mainly Autoglym products - usually use Supe Resin Polish, but have just got the Ultra Deep Shine stuff as it is supposedly good for Darker colours - to be fair, I have tested it on a patch and it seems to work a treat!

Good work though - fingers crossed mine comes out anywhere near as good as Belfast is a long way!!

biglaugh It's not THAT far away - not at least if you make a bit of a holiday out of it.
AG products aren't bad - just don't be expecting the same result though.
There's nothing on there - just freshly machine polished, and it's only about 80-90% fully corrected.
The polish used was/is one that's not currently available in the UK - can't say which, as I may be doing something with it in that regard.
So, shuush.......mum's the word. wink

Mums the word then! Keep me on the list of potentials! Never been to Belfast though - spent a lot of time South of the border though - some great roads - if you can avoid the potholes though! Thanks for replying!!

Aye, they've still not got round to filling any of the feckers in - all their budget is being spent on making the M50 bypass a three or four lane carpark, as opposed to a two lane one. S'pose they lifted that out of the M25 handbook then!

Think I left a back axle and a small child in one of them, so that should help. As for mimicking the M25 - no chance - that take a special breed of idiot!!! More lanes than you can shake a stick at, and still nobody moves!!
