I did it! First go, i think i was lucky, but maybe the 125 Varadero for 6 months helped.

So, the fun bit starts! I have a budget of around £2500-£3000 and i dont want to go mad (ex TVR cerbera owner - bit of a speed freak - so get to got something that i cant do silly speeds on biggrin)

I am torn, love the SV 650S but worry it might be a little cramped, or position not right for a 40 mile commute?

Then there is te ER-6F/N nice bike but maybe out of the price range.

Ideally id like a twin cause of the sound, dont really want to go new cause i'll probably drop it!!!

Will be using every day, rain or shine, so got to be a good all rounder.

Any recommendations or comments on the SV suitability?

Well done chap great news....

you need one of these

a bit over you budget, for a new one but some cracking deals on at the moment as they clear the decks for the 696. You get the benfit of 2 years warranty and recovery and a bike you know that no-one else has ridden..

I started out looking at 2nd hand and in the end there was only a few hundred quid between a 2yo one and a new one !!!!

I've ordered one and the only thing i've taken so far is the theory !!!

Well done mate

I know its not a twin but what about a Goof

Honda reliability, plenty available within budget, and enough grunt so you won't get bored

I got a sv as my first bike. It'll be fine for what you describe...

However after a year I wanted more power, handling etc after 2 years I'm on the verge of changing.

Don't get me wrong- its more than capable. Its certainly better than I am but I wish I'd started with a higher spec bike.

A hornet would be a great start if you want naked or a cbr600f if you want faired.

The 650 twin is a great engine though. Sounds great with a decent can and likes to be revved. I prefer the sv650s to the sv1000s for example because of how the chassis/engines work.

+ 1 on the Hornet 600. Unflappable, infallable. Genius.

Thanks all, still undecided!

A friend has offered to lend me a bandit 600 until i make up my mind, but i have to tax and MOT it, not sure whether to do that or just go and buy one for myself...i think the latter!

Thanks for opinions, will let you know what i end up with!

rsv gone!
