Well for many Lotus owners Stelvio is a big pull. Do a google and you'll soon learn.

The Alps offer some great driving, I prefer the French ones as there tends to be less traffic and the locals aren't as uptight as the Swiss. http://www.aukadia.net/alps/ is a cycling site but a useful resource for finding good roads. Spain is also a great place to head to for twisty roads and lovely scenery. Both Spain and France are big enough that it's easy to find good roads with little traffic. Swizzerland and Italy are much more crowded.

Before you go make sure you know where you can get fresh tyres as A048s won't last long over there when you're having fun. Good places I've used for changes are Kumschick in Switzerland and PB Racing in Italy. Don't assume that official dealers will have stock or even be interested (curse you Autoimpex).

Edit: Oh and don't bother with any of the Swiss Alps on a Sunday. They'll be jammed with bikers who won't get out of your way.

Scottish Highlands

It's just getting there in the first place that is the trouble.

last year myself and the girlfriend (in 2 cars) went on the Furball Viking Tour (http://www.fb5k.com/) around Norway , Sewden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, France etc...anyway, I would love to go back and just spend 5 days in Norway - the roads were awesome, the scenery fantastic and there was barely anyone there. On some days last year, other than our own group you would barely see another car smile

Hi there, the best thing to do is pick your ultimate destination, set your SatNav to avoid all Motorways and have the time of your life crossing Europe on great roads with no traffic. We have taken several holidays this way in our Exige and visited the Matterhorn, Eiger, crossed the Stelvio Pass, been down to Venice, through the Gorge du Verdun and visited Monte Carlo, (where after several loud and fast flybys through the tunnel they set up a speed camera to catch us!) My point is take the less trod path as there is more to see and more fun to be had!

All true but Scandinavian countries tend to have low crime, which means a police force having the time, energy and extreme pettiness to target any type of speeding offence.

The general feeling is the police get worse ( or better, if you are seriously anti-speeding ) the further north you go. Danish police a little ( little ) more willing to let you go with a warning, the Swedes tough....the Norwegian police will even ticket their own grandmothers for 31 in a 30.

Problem is, the fines are astronomical, again more so in Norway.

Add to that the huge taxes on cars in Denmark and Norway, and a Scandinavian mentality that you should not ever show off, means a Lotus will have the same effect as a Rolls Royce parked in the old East Berlin. All too tempting for petty coppers!

Hey, still some of the most beautiful roads ( and women ) out there, so yes, you should consider a trip there ( as I am this summer due to Danish blood ) but just be very, very careful.

And take loads of cash !

I once had that done by the Russian mafia in Budapest.

only ever saw 1 copper in Norway in 3 days and that was near a built up arear....not in the middle of no-where right up north where we had been the previous 2 days. Other members of our group did get a fine on the motorway on the way into Oslo - about £300 just for 10Kmh over the limit, so yes, very high fines if you do get caught, but no different to the UK - keep your eyes open etc.,..certainly not enough to put me off visiting their again smile

They must have liked me as I have been told that a more usual course of action is a simple process of removing knee caps with a russian pistol.....
