Speedo and mileometer stopped working

My speedo has stopped working and also the mileometer now reads '0'. Does this sound like a knackered gauge? I know the car had it's speedo replaced a few years before i bought it, so it's probably nearing 10 years old.
If i do need to replace it, i can opt for the speedo with trip computer (mine doesn't have one), or i could take the opportunity to upgrade all the dials with some aftermarket ones. I would lose the TVR logo, but gain more functionality, LCD backlights, integrated shift lights, data recording etc.
Would there be any problem changing the gauges - calibration, sensor input etc?
