Does this CV boot need replacing?

Hi, I've taken some piccys of it, I saw a couple of places where a small amount of grease may be seeping out but nothing big;

If it's leaking it needs replacing.

If it already has a split and is leaking then total failure will not be far away and in the mean time you risk water and road dirt getting in an damaging an otherwise good CV joint.

Inboard of the retaining band then it is holed or split.

Damage to the CV joint and potentially contamination of the braking system, if it's a hub joint, are merely a few miles away.

OK thanks I will have a go at putting a new one on. I've looked on the gsf car parts site to order a new kit, is it the inner cv boot or the outer cv boot that I need? Also what is the difference between the two just so i know?

The inner will be the gearbox end of the shaft and outer at wheel end.

If the whole shaft has to come off to do the job you would do well to replace them both.

That's a distinct issue with inboard brakes but seems unlikely to be a problem with outboard brakes since the CV and brake rotor are on opposite sides of the upright.
