Hi,

On the way back from Chatsworth (great day out) I got "fuel sensor fault" and/or "water sensor fault" a few times.
This happened 4 or 5 times sometimes with only one of the errors and other times both.
Other than this the only thing I've noticed over the past few weeks is that the water temp display is fairly steady upto the low 90s but then becomes quite eratic sometimes changing fast between several different readings ranging from 90 to just over 100.
One cooling fan is cutting in when the display shows mid 90s, other other around 98.
Am I right in thinking the temperature display uses different sensors to those used for driving the fans.
Anyone any ideas as to what to look for ?
As both fans are cutting in and its not overheated should I be worried, is this purely a display thing ?

Cheers
Paul

Rule 1: Don't park next to me! These things catch.

I had the similar problem on my T350. Was getting a fuel sensor fault but the temp sensor caused it... don't ask. I'm surprised that you are getting the fans cutting in so late. but yes, the fan and ecu have their own sensors so it's problably just the ecu one playing up. Dom's got a new chip which cuts the fans in earlier.

At least you're not getting random numbers on the display for temp and oil pressure like mine.

Hi Paul,

As you parked next to me I'm blaming you !

Just been out for a run and no sensor errors today but temp gauge is still rock steady upto 90s then erratic. Fans cutting in around 95 then 98 but it's hard to tell with it changing so quick.

Is there anyway of seeing what temperature the sensor used for the fans is reading ?

I am experiencing similar problems with the water temp on my Tam. I spoke to a few people up a Chatsworth and they said next time I'm in the garage with it ask them to plug into the sensor that drives the fans and see if it talleys up with what the dash is reading and also to give a true indication of when the fans are cutting in. Maybe you should do the same?

I'll give Dom a call later in the week as it'd be nice to have the fans cutting in earlier, always worries me sitting in traffic in summer. Depends on cost of course.
I suppose I could always check the ecu temperature readings with the diag software.

Rapid variations in the water temp readout could indicate an airlock in the cooling system. The last time I had water sensor errors it turned out to be leaking radiatorfrown

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.

Must say your car looks stunning, pictures just don't do it justice, it had lots of admirers at Chatsworth.
Seemed to be a constant stream of people seeking your advice/info too.

rolex, I don't think theres a leak, can't remember the last time I had to put any water in but I'll check the levels again tomorrow just to make sure.

I've tried pointing it up hill and squeezing the hoses but not much success.

Diagnostic software shows a fault logged against the water sensor. Temperature from the ecu is approx 4-5 degrees lower than that shown on the lcd display which explains why I see over 100 sometimes. Reading from ecu is far more stable than the dash display too.

Looks like a dealer visit.

Hi Graham,

Connections are as follows. I've been unable to identify the connector

9Way Pin2 ->3Way Pin2
9Way Pin3 ->3Way Pin1
9Way Pin5 ->3Way Pin3

Looking at the connector in the car with the chamfered edges at the top pin 1 is on the right.

I've not tried a usb->serial adaptor as my laptop is so old it even has a floppy drive !

Apart from lots of numbers and some graphs does the diagnostic software tell me anything of interest ?
It all looks like double dutch to me !

I take it you are using the three pin connection on the driver side not the 16 way OBD on the passenger side then?

G
Yes, driver side 3 way. TBH I didn't know there was a 16way OBD. Does that give access to anything the 3way doesn't ?
