What tool?

I am going to fit a new Shimano XT Crankset Hollowtech II & Bottom Bracket to my MB. Does anyone know what special tools I will need? I am told I need two?

Sorry but that's rubbish. I fitted mine in under 5 minutes and have never done it before! The only thing I got the LSB to do was face the frame to ensure the bearings would sit parallel and remove the old internal BB because purchasing the tools to do this would have cost more (and I'd never use them again).

I agree. It is dead easy. I fitted a XT HTII only yesterday and it was simple - prob the easiest bit of non general mnaintenance i have ever done - the hardest bit was getting the old crank off.

You will need x2 special tools (plus x1 standard allen key, and some grease) - one for the cups, and then a small plasticky round thing for the cap on the non drive side. I already had both of 'em when i bought a bike tool kit last year. Follow the instructions as given above and you won't go far wrong.

Also, remember that you may need to adjust the height of your front derailleur clamp too, if the outer chainring is of a different size to your old one.

Thanks! The link to Park tools will be useful. I am buying my Shimano bits from Chain Reaction anyway, I'll also get the two tools I need from them, I have everything else.

I have no problem working on bikes, just as long as I have the correct tools. I was just going to fit a new BB and re use my existing Truvativ Chainset however the Shimano XL kit at £59.00 is such a good deal, I am replacing the whole lot.
