We should form our own Dragons Den.

There must be enough business people here to be able to help others make money as well as ourselves.

So, vote, yes or no, if a resounding yes then we need a plan.

No for me.

Anyone who wants investment can surely pitch in the current forum. My fear is it would get full up with wannabes who like to dream.

Agree, but surely these will be weeded out.

Get a business plan, look at the market potential etc.

I would be concerned about who I was picthing to.

I had a PH member contact me about an idea I was developing and posting carefully on PH, who asked for some basics saying they coukld help and then disappeared. There might need to be a non disclosure agreement and it be a closed forum unless you had agreed to the NDA?

NDA is a must. Agree.

With safeguards I would play.

Pretty worthless without the capital to freely finance legal support at will.

Eh, everyone is always looking for problems.

All I am saying is that some of us here are capable of doing this, yes, there will be legal issues, I for one know quite a few that may decide to offer serveices at no cost up front for a share of the deal.

You can do anything you want if you put your mind to it.

No offence, just typing out loud.

Good idea.

Also with the different expertise in here you could have affiliates who can help with different aspects, IE the obvious funding, the marketing, branding, manufacturing, finding and securing property, etc.

A real PH business factory!

I for one would be interested in getting involved with the design side of things!

Agreed. My point is why another forum? The business one is hardly over-subscribed and all the right people seem to be here anyway.

Not advocating another forum.

This post is a means to an end, lets get some like minded people together and form a "Dragons Den" type of club where people can meet and approach the "club" with business ideas/propositions.

And how good would it be that Pistonheaders could be responsible for the generation of new businesses?

It's just easier to be negative, that's all wink

Another negative point is that anyone wanting to be an angel ought to have to show a minimum level of liquid assets and a previous track record.

I've actually had experience on this sort of thing and to be honest, your first thought is that the time wasters will be the people coming to you with the ideas, but in all honesty, the biggest time wasters and the people who will kill this off very quickly are the angels as most of them won't have the money, expertise or appetite. And you need all 3.

But every now and then someone, trustworthy and honest will be along and need genuine help.

As to the money side, I agree, as to previous track record?

I do not have one, but it would be me risking my money. And here we go again, another barrier, because I do not have a track record I am not allowed to do it, is that correct?

I know what you mean when you say it is easier to be negative, thats partly my point, lets give em a chance if we can and make some money out of it.

All good banter, and I appreciate you raising these issues.
clap

I like the idea and I would certainly be willing to offer any help in what ever format I am able. I wouldn't say that I was a sceptic, but I have learned some rather harsh lessons quite early on in life. The concept would almost certainly be open to abuse, potentially by both sides, but on the other hand, it could turn out to be a very exciting resource.

Something I do think we PH members could offer is some kind of business networking group. I am in the process of negotiating the sale of my company and something that I have really come to recognise is that it's not so much what you know, but who you know. For those of us who live north of the M25 it can often be quite difficult making the right kind of contacts. Sure there are local directors clubs, but they're not really the people I need to be speaking to!

Recently I have been spending a fair bit of time travelling to meetings in the city and it has been a real eye opener. The contacts that I have made in that short time have been very valuable. Surly there are enough like minded and successful multi national businessmen here to be able to create a useful resource?

Well let's hope it works better than Shareheads, where some apparently very clever, rich and able people became completely useless the moment they stepped up to the mark.

Just "bumped" into this post and think their is potential. I run a business in East Yorkshire and find it invaluable in getting out of my locality and networking with experienced professional, especially if there from the financial sectors. Just spent a few hours this week with our credit insurance brokers and gained a real heads up on current activity levels across numerous sectors and gave me some inclination as what to expect going forward this year.

For this Dragon Den concept to work you need a structure and certainly not a free for all of opinion. Action makes things happen so I suggest someone forwards an idea or investment opportunity and those who are genuinely interested or who can contribute experienced thinking register that interest and then we could set up a separate post and see what 2-3 days of activity results in. I can't think of a structure currently but best way I learn is create & accept a failed way method to and learn from it rather than spend to much time in thiinking about it.
I'll try to think of an idea, no real proposals for investemnt at this time.

N.B It's at times like this that a bit of networking and coaching can keep you focussed on the positives and not just the gloomy outlook. Enjoyed reading posts for the first time within the Business forum, hope I can contribute.

This is a great idea.

I've had so much help and support from PH'ers while setting up and running my first business. I don't think I'd be where I am now if it wasn't for their input and ideas. Also, bouncing ideas around in the forum is a great way of ironing out early, obvious and often overlooked problems before committing any money.

I like to think I can lend some of my experience nowadays too. Good plan yes
