Corvette ZR1 Hits 205mph

Production ZR1 will have 638hp for £50,000

GM has revealed official power figures for the new Chevrolet ZR1 and surprise, surprise, it’s no slouch.

Bearing in mind that this car is likely to cost around £50,000 in the States (that’s seen as expensive there) what you get for your money is a car capable of hitting 205mph.

The company had promised at least 100 horspower per litre from the 6.2 litre engine, meaning 620hp, but the actual figure is now 638hp.

The company has now tested the car to 205mph on a test track in Germany as the video below shows.

Interestingly for a US car, GM is also making big claims about how economical the ZR1 will be.

In fact they say the car will be the most economical 600+ horsepower car in the world.

So economy and 200+ mph performance for £50,000? Yes please…

A pal in the States has one on order - I have to say, it's the first modern Vette I like the look of. I LOVE that it's un-ashamedly aggressive. smile

Depending on how much it actually sells for, it could make the Nissan GTR look a bit over-priced smile

Nice, although when you look at it, the M5 is going to be cheaper (by the time the vette gets over here) comes in RHD and is a lot better built...ok your 130bhp down but the M5 will crack 200mph with no limiter..i know where my money would go (or an Audi RS6 if you fancy)

still for 50k it's crazy

Is that a blown engine? 100bhp/litre from a 6.2 V8 NA would be very impressive.

Thats at papenburg isn't. Its certinaly alot of go for the money. I seem to be banging on about largely academic stats a fair bit lately but i don't think a standard M5 will do 200. A stardard M6 won't i doubt the M5 body will provide enough of an areo anvantage to top 200. Any news on how much it will cost in the UK?

That looked alot like an oval test track to me, some old granny carrier wold fall off a banked bend that steep if it was an auto bann.

I think we were both replying to this comment and the fact it's clear to anyone that's watched the video that it's a test track, realise that might not have been clear though:

Think its the new supercharged motor, the 7ltr is N/A, its a pushrod 2 valve motor so a 100bhp/litre can be done with Ls motors but its a huge cam, and lots of work, My LS for instance is 539bhp and its a 6.3, with a fair bit of work.

Certainly is a track dont know where to be honest but lack of road signs, traffic going in other direction etc. you can even see the off road course next to it. check out the first corner where he actually has to steer left into the right hand corner because of the banking. i hate that bit stuff doing it at 200.

I could live with the interior, but keep the chrome wheels, and give me the keys!
