Faster than Fast

Hi All
With the MOT sorted last Thursday I finally got my car back on the road again. The last few months I've been sorting out my new transaxle and triple plate clutch. The new transaxle is a G96-50 built by CMS. The new flywheel and clutch setup has come via Gardner Douglas Sportcars. I also have a new starter setup as it's now on the gearbox side rather than the engine side as it was with the G96 setup. I had to make a new rear mount for the new box as it's quite a bit longer. The new transaxle is a six speed cable change box as was the G96, and I can report that the standard factory cables and cable mount work the same on this box as they did on the old one. The hardest job was grinding out the bellhousing to fit the new ring gear for the starter. The bellhousing is smaller on this box than a standard G50.
I took the car out on Saturday for the first drive of the year. This is my first drive of the car since the power increase (650bhp 700lbs/ft). The car was fast before but now it's just ballistic.
I shot past a line of traffic on the way home from visiting Russ (Highflyer) and it was like going into hyperspace. Your thinking time has just gone. It's just crazy! It's a strange feeling when it comes on boost as the air up to that point is being dumped by the bypass valve but when it closes it all goes quiet as you get launched into the scenery. I still need to do some mapping for hard acceleration off the line but for the rest it's pretty much done. With the new box 100mph is just 2,900rpm in sixth. I don't have time to post pics of the new setup till later in the week but I'll be at Stoneleigh on Sunday anyway! Good weather please!
On another point I just changed from the Fiorano tyres to Michelin PS2 and it has transformed the car! No more tramlining and it just feels so much better all round.
Regards Dave

Dave,
You mentioned in a previous post you were planning to fit traction and launch control in the spring, how's that going ?
Also on the same theme Jeff Schwartz had a lengthy discussion with the guys at Racelogic about their product, he wasn't sure as to whether knocking out the pulse to the injectors wouldn't lean out the engine too much. I think he came away from that conversation unconvinced. What are your views?
Steve

Hi Steve
I've not yet finished the Traction control due to the time spent on the transaxle but I hope to have it up and running in June. I had it fitted to my TVR and it worked great with that setup which also stole injection pulses. As it steals the whole pulse it should not cause a lean issue! I'll let you know how I get on with it!

I think we've kept each other going over the last few months! It will make a change just to enjoy driving them and to forget about all this hard work! Roll on sunny days!

Dave: thanks for your mention of the change in Tires. I have PS2s on my GTR and since I ve never driven one on anything else it was informative to hear your comments. I have seen several of you mention that you like the Kumo's ect for track work. I will have a set of slicks for track days on a seconf set of rims so what I am really intrested in is a good street tire. Lee
