It's on the rear diff; either on the side or the top depending on car age.

Your caps lock key is on the left of your keyboard, btw. wink

Just tap it a few times when driving they tend to stick at 99999 showings, it is one of those features they built in at Blackpool.

Is the sender the problem most of the time then?

Generally, if both the speedo and mileometer (odometer) aren't working then its the sender. If one is working and the other is not, then the problem is in the dial.

I had a look for the sender last night and could not find it. It was hard to get to. Its a 1995 n reg 500, what does it look like.
Thanks again.

As its a 95 car its on the input to the diff from the prop shaft. The toothed wheel is sandwiched between the propshaft and the diff and the sensor is above the toothed wheel. You can just about get access through one of the rear wheel arches.

You dont say how the speedo has stopped working. Has it stopped altogether? or are parts of it still working?

There's one two thirds of the way down this page

www.thetvrshop.com/TVR/Parts/Chimaera/b%7C.htm

its actually called a speedo transducer, the brass bit will be pointing towards the toothed wheel on the diff. It'll probalbly be covered in dirt.

Could be in either position on a 96 car, it wasn't a clear cut changeover for all cars registered on a certain date wink

OP, Cleaning, gapping and checking for broken wiring (runs under centre console) between speedo & sensor is worthwhile. You really need to drop the exhaust and propshaft to get at it.

Whilst thats stripped, its well worth doing propshaft UJ's, Handbrake cable & handbrake pivot, chassis top rail inspection... IMHO.

Is it positioned on top of the input shaft to the diff on later cars [after1996] ? the bracket is there and toothed wheel but no sensor? I bought the car like this with non working speedo, idont know as when the diff was previously rebuilt by torque rvt somone left the sensor off?

Double posting is frowned upon, why not remove your other thread.

Why not call Torque and ask them about it, they may well know the reason it was left off as it sounds such an unusual thing to do...
