Hi All,

Quick bit of advice needed:

I would like a Heart rate monitor, and would ideally like to combine this with a cycle computer too, however I accept that you have to compromise slightly with size etc to gain this:

So:

I would like a monitor that:

  • Tells me if I'm going to die
  • Allows me to upload how unfit I am to the computer somehow
I would also like:

  • A bike computer
If I'm really going to puush to boat out, I'd like the bike computer to:

  • Tell me where I am
Can I get this all rolled into one, or am I best getting a HRT separatly, and getting a GPS computer for the bike?

Can anyone recommend any HRT's? I'm due to run my first Half Marathon in September, so I need to start training properly so I don't die and all that...

Garmin Edge 305 is what you'll be needing. Does everything you mention for a reasonable cost. Had mine since Christmas and use it on pretty much every ride. Good write-up of it here:

It's also pretty good for navigation if you upload a route from Memory Map smile

+1.

I have used the running versions of the Garmins for years. They are second to none (well, maybe Suunto, but they cost a fortune!) giving up to date data, and allowing you to review on your computer afterwards.

They're currently £140 from Halfords Online.

Problem is with the Garmin is that it looks like battery life is only up to 10 hours or so.

I'm training for the South Downs Way which maye well be over 12 hours in total and Ialso for hiking where I might be out all day. Can I get mobile phone type emergency battery booster for it?

I heard Nike+ was quite good at the uploading to computer kinda thing, but I haven't read into it, etc. Might be worth a look?

Oh well, the Halfords (online only) deal looks too good to miss. I've just bought one, so I'll just have to hope I can get a cheapo AA USB charger from eBay.

Actually, just been to the Halfords site, and they've got an additional 10% off the Garmin Edge 305, making it £130 delivered instead of £145 delivered.

Just ordered one off there, and will look to sell the one I just got off ebay (which was pretty much new anyway) back onto ebay again smile

Unless anyone fancies a deal wink
