They're nice, what's the weight compared with the standard griff wheels? sizes you've got there?

What carbon one off parts you've got? have a link to the producer?

Thanks!

Dont know weight. Give Silverstone performance a call. Remember that 17/18 inch rims are a larger wheel so the wheel weight may not be too dissimilar to the griff wheels. But the tyres will be much lighter so the whole combo should be lighter.

The only TVR carbon fibre parts i currently have moulds for are Chimaera lower dash pod and centre console. Thinking about doing mirrors soon. Have also made Carbon and LED indicator lamps! Going on my car this week as soon as it has the front end sprayed...

The wheels are great. Really modernise the look of the car. 15/16" combo looking a bit dated (IMO) and too dificult to get tyres for now.

Don't think a bigger wheel and tyre combo will be lighter that a smaller one.

I weighted my 15 inch Oz split rims (225/50 *15) 17.5 kg
and 18 inch spiders (245/40 *18) from my T350 21KG.

That's actually quite a lot of unsprung weight..

I have a very lightweight (minilite replicas) on my '77 corvette, the size of the rim os 11.5x15 and tires are 325/55/15, altogether for a weight of 19 kgs...tires are the race bias ply hoosiers (not radial) and that is also a huge save on unsprung weight.

I was tempted to make a custom version of this very same wheel for the griffith, i think it could be below 15 kg, included tires.

What do you think?

The SP12 thing has been done to death... use the search function and find a thread about it with Bosscerbera. smile

First you need to decide whether you are trying to achieve performance or looks. Straight line performance you need as small a dia wheel as possible that will fit over the brakes, usually 15". Handling you may end up with 16" for slightly greater control.

To achieve a lower weight than your minilite proposal is going to be difficult, esp if they are magnesium ones.

Sort of but as can be seen in this post that didn't deter you from stating that: 1/. a 2" increase would not be dissimilar to the Griff wheels, 2/. that the larger wheel dia tyres would be much lighter and 3/. that the whole combo should be lighter; experience of these issues would lead to the opposite conclusion on each of those points.

This is getting well away from what the OP requires though, say http://www.comp.co.uk/wheels/wheels.asp?size=15%22... or
http://www.comp.co.uk/wheels/wheels.asp?size=16%22...

Didn't mean to mislead. Just applying what seems logical. The SP12's are minimal in design and advertised as lightweight. The tyres surely would be much lighter? The side wall is much less so surely lighter? If not then thats as impressive as getting 40g of fat in a sandwich wink I have also just changed a set of standard wheels over to Team Dynamics on a Lotus and the larger Team D wheels did feel lighter.

Not arguing with you, but my opinion can only be based on my thoughts and experiences...

Lightweight is relative. 18" TVR spider vs 18" SP12 or 15" Estoril vs 17" SP12?

For tyres of a given diameter and width the weights are roughly the same - the larger wheel dia/lower profile tyres are actually very slightly heavier (a few %) The reason is the reinforcement in the tyre. I'll bow to your greater sandwich knowledge as I have no idea how much fat one should expect or be surprised about.
