does it not make 1001ps, which is equal to 987bhp ?
Yes. But if you want to drive above 200mph you'll find a 0-60 of about a week. Reason being the bloke has to come out and fit some new tyres for you.
If you're at the lights with an F1 that could be a disadvantage.
Yup.
186mph is the pre-tyre-change figure. It has an electronic speed limiter on it up until that point. You make a phone call, wherever you are in the world they come to change your tyres, and remove the limiter electronically.
Then you can go and play at 252mph.
Seems quite sensible really I think. The one problem is that if you come across a 186mph+ car at the lights, they know they'll do you. Let's be honest tho....how often's THAT gonna happen, and would you ever accelerate to that speeds from a set of lights anyway!!!

can somebody explain to me htf you cobble together a WW section engine?
I think you must join two W engines longitudinally.
I have enough problems getting my head around what a W engine looks like.
A W engine traditionally was banks at *|/, (where * would be a back slash if Ted would let me!) so see here, which is one side of a Napier Lion Aircraft Engine. or [url]here|http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/town/lane/xvo73/gallery/pres032/pres03206.htm[/url
I think VW use the term for very narrow angle V's or offset Straight engines, ie only one block but barrels are not parallel in that blocks.
Edit to get V formating correct

The W-16 is 2 VR8's tacked together. Yes, I know VAG doesn't build VR8s, do you really think that would stop them??
Good descrption at:

The VR8s are 15 degree seperated banks of 4. The two VR8s are seperated by 72 degrees. Then simply tack a turbo at each corner and, bingo-bango, 1000 HP.

I was there.
It is a beautiful car and crazy fast. What isn't really conveyed in the photos is the size of the rear spoiler. It's freakin' huge.......about the size of the side of a barn.
Oh yes.... and this is something that you won't hear in the VW press; on his second lap the driver locked up th front right going into turn two at 130mph and spun the Bug off into the sand. Just by luck( and maybe driver skill) he saved it and pulled back on the track to do 2 more laps. Now that would have been a sight to see........a million or two dollar prototype biting in the USA....not even on the Nurb. or Silverstone.
